I agree with you completely.
I started at a new company in February and was able to use AI to get fully on boarded 3 months faster than their typical onboarding cycle.
I use it to learn new things all the time and to enhance my existing decades of experience. Very humbling when it shows you how much you don't know.
I think this is completely dependent on the person building it and why they love building software.
Some people got into software development because they love to code. Others got into it because they love bringing ideas to life and coding was the only means to do so.
I am of the latter. I love software development because it allows me to bring my idea to life. Yes, I love to code but it's a means to get to my ultimate goal. I don't have a lot of time outside of work and family to work on my ideas. They usually just sit in my head until I forget about them.
Being able to use AI to assist in feature planning while I'm on the go, break everything down into organize phases, put those phases into the structured tickets, work on architecture design, and have things come to life around my requirements and within my constraints has been a complete game changer.
They stated to have the bank statements showing everything was paid but the company refused to look at it. Sounds like they may not have been in a deficit but company refused to look at anything
I'm with you on this being incredibly exciting.
I'm 40 and have been doing this since I was 12 as well. Once I became a staff engineer at a large company and ended up being a less Hands-On with code and more on team leadership and system architecture, it set me up for this perfectly.
I missed writing code (or so I thought) but what I realized is that I actually missed bringing ideas to life. Coding was just a means to do that and the new tools with LLM and agents have allowed me to do the core of what I love way more than coding by hand could have ever allowed
To add to this, no matter what countries do, we can make our local environments nicer to live in by reducing pollution but across the globe, solar activity has exponentially more, and the ultimate impact. With the magnetic field weakening, it's going to continue going in this direction as it has throughout history.
I'm not saying we shouldn't do what we can to make our local environment better and protect and Preserve what we have. We absolutely should. I'm just stating that this is not the first time the Earth has heated or cooled and nothing that we do will ultimately stop it from this cycle from continuing.
Man, I didn't see hackers for the first time until probably 5 years after I wrote my first line of code. I still watch it to this day but I got started when I saw "wavy colored text" in an AOL chat room. Yup, colored sup and sub text. Fascinated me as an 11/12 year old and I picked up Visual Basic 5. Good times
