I think the connection between u/maxwellhill and Ghislaine Maxwell is dubious. The account is named after the town Maxwell Hill in Malaysia, and they had posted in Malaysian subreddits years before any of these theories came out. It seems more likely to me that the similar names are a coincidence and that the account owner quite reasonably stopped using the account when they became suspected of being involved in a major international conspiracy.

The whole essay is great, I'd really recommend reading it and Benjamin's other works.
Walter Benjamin wrote about this all the way back in the 1930s. He observed that early art like frescos painted on walls and sculptures in temples require the viewer to travel to them, but they gave way to paintings on canvas and busts that could travel to cities to meet audiences where they were.
Technology continued to push this trend, reproducing art through photography and printing in books and newspapers let it move even further to meet people in their own homes.
These current patterns you are seeing are an extension of this, the relationship between art and viewer has inverted, art is now expected to come to us, the focus has moved to within ourselves.
Marshall McLuhan also expanded on this and the idea of technology as extensions of us with his work "Understanding Media: The Extension of Man" if you'd like to read more.
The PS2/DS game Flower Sun and Rain did this. There was an available book that was a guide for an in-game resort whose contents were used to solve puzzles. There was also a digital version within the game, but the physical book looks fun.

There is likely a selection bias at work here. Anyone who correctly identifies that they lack the domain knowledge to leave a well informed comment will not post. So most posts will naturally be by the uninformed or arrogant, but we have no idea what the ratio between these two groups is because people who dont post are impossible to count.
TechMoan has used a reel to reel player as a version of this for audio tape. A few obscure formats only fit in rare specialty players, so he's simply wound their internal tapes onto reels and digitized them that way.
Could just as easily be a bias in reporting given the interest in other flight related issues lately. Previously unremarkable outages like this can suddenly become newsworthy if other current events seem to give them context. Once an issue is proven to draw clicks headlines will go back to that well any chance they get.

The book "Trust me I'm lying" goes into detail about this phenomenon. It is the interest of the media to be tricked, the authors get big stories and clicks and can then turn around and play dumb if things blow up. No one remembers the individual journalist who wrote the puff pieces, so the negative effects of eroding trust fall to a tragedy of the commons situation.
I've seen weirdly different sorting options for a while now that vary channel by channel. I assumed it was set by the uploader, but I would believe that its a global change now.

I believe the logic is that it makes taxation something explicit that you are forced to notice. The idea being that an included tax would be invisible and allow for hidden changes and less recognition of the government's role.
I agree with the point of your post, however I question whether streaming's utopian moment even actually happened. I was a very early adopter of Netflix streaming and their catalog was quite poor for a long time. Just tons of cheap no name filler content, old public domain type stuff, and a surprising amount of softcore pornography. There were high profile movies and shows sometimes too, but they were the exception and even back then they would get removed regularly. Today's streaming landscape, greedy as it may be, at least offers the ability to stream premium content that Netflix never would have had even in their days of solo dominance. Perhaps the streaming golden age is closer to something that could have been, rather than something that actually was.

I think you're correct that the statement isnt necessarily indicative of the writer having a specific bias. However misleading yet provocative comparisons like that are actively incentivized by the structure of journalism at the moment. Writing like that takes less effort and research yet it gets more views and shares. So perhaps its not malice or agenda pushing, but the writer also understands that being misleading is directly profitable. Why would they bother doing the work to make a more accurate or nuanced comparison if will hinder their own interests.
