IMO it's the end of the end of a free Internet. Toxic social media traffic, spam bots, hackers, and AI have taken over the majority of internet traffic a long time ago, thus the beginning of the end passed by as we slept.

I can appreciate how "building social is hard" in 2026, but is trying to be social on the internet still a worthy goal? The world has such problems with isolation and distrust that I'm not sure "online" is the solution. If Digg can do something different and help heal the world, more power to them, but I'm not holding my breath. That's not a slight to Digg, but more a comment on the slipping mental health of the world.

Agreed. Mozilla has problems, but bleeding funds from Google to fund their competition has a satisfaction factor. I'd rather sign a petition to keep the Google daddy fund going until the very end.

Some argue that it's good to have an independent rendering engine. Here too Firefox plays no role at all. The only counter force to Google's web feature roadmap is Apple/Webkit, not Mozilla.

Maybe I missed the memo that we stopped hating monopolies? Every browser worth considering, except Firefox and Safari, is based on Chromium. Firefox and Safari make up about 20% global market share, meaning Chromium in about 80% [0]. A bug in Chromium is a bug in all of them. A backdoor in Chromium is a backdoor in all of them. A feature of Chromium, good or __bad__, is a feature in all of them. It baffles me that this isn't a bigger concern to more people.

Firefox is usually great for me, but with Chromium-based browsers having such a massive market share monopoly I do occasionally find a website that doesn't work properly on Firefox. But, I will stick with Firefox as long as possible.

The `security` tool is handy too. I like the ability to store passwords in the `login` Keychain and automate using them in the terminal using `security find-generic-password`.

It makes me think (dangerous, I know) ... I find it odd to use the term "self host" when referring to a third-party cloud. It's someone else's servers and network and electric bill, after all.

Pedantry aside, yeah that seems expensive given the amount of convenience offered. But much more convenient than setting up a server in your basement with a UPS and external backup drives and such.

I stopped watching/reading "the news" years ago, for these reasons:

1) Negativity / Tragedy "sells" better than good news 2) The facts have taken a back seat to sensationalism and celebrity worship and opinion 3) There are only a handful of mega-corporations running all the "news" and deciding what to show/tell vs. what to hide/ignore.

What irks me most is that I now have to choose between A) being my own investigative report when a topic is important enough, or B) giving in to not knowing the truth. Being lazy and stupid is not a good plan forward, but being well-informed requires time I usually don't have to spend. Thanks, "news" industry.
