The other subs shutting down "in protest" I found laughable. I had a hard time understanding what exactly they were protesting and the vocal minority sounded like a lot of people just raging against the machine. Reddit the company is the power structure and people just want to tear them down.

But why exactly? Not sure. This reminds me a lot of Occupy Wall Street. People see one protest breaking out then pile on with their own grievances. There was a lack of communication to the /r/iama mods about Victoria being let go...ok...now we're complaining about mod tools and censorship??

I've had the same thoughts through this ordeal. If it's such a burden go ahead and stop being a mod. There's plenty of users that would gladly take your place. Yet I've not heard of any doing so.

Letting Victoria go probably sucks since she helped coordinate so much. But that kind of chaos or disorganization happens in any company I've worked for when a key employee is let go. Large corporations with paid employees don't always get this right. So to me Reddit's actions were no surprise, once the decision is made the employee is notified and shown the door.

Very good points. The ability for publishers to discount games on steam where they otherwise couldn't in physical retail markets is that they have just one place to set that price and distribute it.

MS by eliminating the used game market forces consumers to buy these older games in digital form where publishers can offer these sales. I don't know if that will make them any cheaper than if someone simply bought a used game from ebay. It certainly won't affect the price of new games.

What bothers me is the notion that these digital purchases could go away at the end of the XBox1 generation. Consoles notoriously aren't backwards compatible friendly. I'm fine with buying PC games digitally on steam as I know they'll work as long as whatever Windows version I have is still around. And I would wager Windows 7 will be supported much longer than the XBox1 will be the current generation.

Surely this is not the first case of children being angry when someone takes away their toys. Is using an iPad causing any more damage than say, a Game Boy?

I hope so too, but I don't know that many great comics that fall off like that. Carlin was true to himself to the end, Seinfeld still tours and works relentlessley on his act. Chris Rock may have lost a little bit but is still one of the best standups alive.

Not to mention Doom was not at all "simple, playful, and colorful". Running around through Hell with dismembered corpses on spikes being chased but gruesome demons was frightening in the early '90s. Maybe it was just cause I was 10 at the time :)

I just don't understand what is necessarily wrong with that. You don't enjoy the more competitive culture that games like Halo, COD, or Starcraft invite but that doesn't restrict other games from being made and enjoyed. There are plenty of inspired original games made every year.

I used to love playing Halo 1 over system link with a group of friends but now trying to hop into Halo 4 only to have a bunch of kids cursing at eachother it turns me off from multiplayer. I agree with you in that some of those elements from the hardcore competitive culture are disappointing, but that is just one facet of gaming culture as a whole. I still feel like there's plenty of other good parts that it doesn't bother me.

Yeah, violent games and shooters have been around well before Halo. It just brought shooters to the consoles. God forbid other "bro types" enjoy games too. There's plenty of other inventive, creative games out there if that's your thing too.
