One additional difficulty in making Portal 2-dimensional is the loss of a relative frame of reference, which can cause control problems. If you hold down the left key to enter a right-facing portal, and exit through another right-facing portal, do you start moving right even though you are holding down the left key? Massive kudos if they can find a intuitive way to solve this.

Stanford gives out automated warnings if you have a lot of torrent-y network activity (I got a few back in the day after downloading some linux distros), but as I recall they are only to notify students that if they are pirating music/movies/etc, they will be held accountable if someone from the RIAA or some other group contacts Stanford about it. If you're downloading legitimate software you shouldn't have anything to worry about (except for some occasional automated spam)

It personally reminds me of 2d side-view games (like later castlevanias) where you can't walk around objects like tables or boxes (you have to jump over them to progress). Perhaps level designers for these sorts of games will become architectural consultants when super-thin houses start springing up in other places?

Um, I think you misread what he meant by "destroying" websites - this app seems to be a game where you control an "asteroids"-style spaceship shooting UI elements on websites (a mobile version of this: http://www.wired.com/epicenter/2010/09/kick-ass-bookmarklet-...) Also, would Apple really approve an application used for DDOS-ing websites?

Here is the paper their tech is based on: http://graphics.stanford.edu/papers/lfcamera/ Basically, the light isn't focused to a single plane, but rather is sent through an array of microlenses which can be sampled in various ways to simulate the focal plane of a traditional camera.
