Medicine is not all about diagnostics. Much of it is also about case management. Encouraging people to do the things that they should have learned from their mothers. Probably 80% or more of my intellectual work as PCP I suspect could soon be accomplished by a computer. Buy many seniors (who tend to need more medical care) don't want to interface with a computer and prefer instead to have a human being that they trust and who they know are working to help them. Once you get your medical care from a computer screen, ala' getting money from an ATM, things will change.

But I agree that the future is likely to change, as it becomes easier for non-medical persons to access and understand medical information and recommendations. It will just then come down to regulatory barriers. When will a computer be given a medical license? 20 years? 50 yrs? 5 yrs?

This is funny. But when will the day come that we can't make them look ridiculous, but yet they are still not reliable -- and yet too many will be looking to them for guidance on life's big questions? Thus this is funny, but also sobering.

U.S. doctor here. I think "ownership" is not the correct way of thinking about this. I would argue that "access" is the better concept. If a dentist creates an xray in his office, then she should have access to the image to be able to prove that she provide standard-of-care treatment should claims of malpractice be leveled. A patient of this dentist should also have ready access to this as it is their body and their information. And perhaps an insurance company may require that they have the right to access the image and ensure the dentist is no submitting fraudulent charges. And many more examples could be created. Throw in privacy considerations adds yet another wrinkle. Again, I think "ownership" or "copyright" is not the best concept.

I have never taken the time to learn RegEx stuff. It seems like it would be great if I could keep all the syntax in my head. So the idea of Melody seems great. I don't like that the github description claims it to be unstable currently. I hope this project continues and flourishes.

To me, it seemed that if a browser had passed every test, the user might not be able to use many web sites. Perhaps the current status is a conscious decision by developers to keep users from hating their browser. Security vs usability.

I found the article overall useful. It seems to me that this issue is still not completely resolved, esp world-wide. The author gives disclaimer that they are not a lawyer, and then give what seems like their opinions. They give a scattering of references to court cases. But it seems they could have done a better job of giving proof for their claims. (UPDATE: The latter part of the article does better than the first.)

I have a love-hate relationship with Delphi/Pascal. Love the language and what I can do with it. Hate the buggy IDE. Love that fpc is n open-source pascal compiler. Hate the the Lazarus IDE was difficult to use (when I last tried it a few years ago). Sad that so many comments talk about pascal in the past tense.

Looks 99% reliable. I mean it is cool that it tracks all the surrounding items. But there is very little surrounding traffic. And the weather looks perfect. What about dog or small child running out into the street in that neighborhood? I'd like to see it's performance in extreme situations. Still, all told, very impressive. Just makes me nervous.

I feel this review is overly harsh. I felt the author was showing that many of the packages were not intuitive and were often buggy. He was showing me what I could expect when I might try them. When one expects one's users to RTFM, they've already lost.

The reason we burn fossil fuels is because we can pull the oil out of the ground and utilize the stored energy. This seems like a different situation than is being described with using iron oxide as a sort of "battery", that will have to later be recharged (reduced away from iron oxide). Thus it seems more like a mechanism for utilizing previously stored energy than as a readily available energy source waiting for exploitation.
