It’s not mentioned in the article, but I’m really disappointed that the backpack emoji was made generic and westernized losing its original meaning. It used to be a randoseru style backpack but was recently changed. Does anyone else care though?
I’d compare this to large format film cameras. By raw resolution, large format film cameras are still far and above what is achievable digitally. Yet, of course, no one would argue that they pose a threat to the practicality and efficiency of digital, and few people appreciate/care about/need so much resolution.
I find it hard to understand why cognitive impairment due to COVID-19 is not discussed more.
Cognitive impairment is a terrifying idea but I think it’s important to balance the risk of COVID-associated cognitive impairment with the risk of cognitive decline that would result from whatever social isolation would be necessary to avoid COVID.
Is cognitive decline due to COVID really comparable to that of lead exposure? If so, I’d really appreciate more concrete information to put the risk into context.
It’s worth noting the conclusion includes “Longer-term persistence of cognitive deficits and any clinical implications remain uncertain.”

That said, at least with stand-alone camera manufacturers you can usually work out what the real specs should be if you’re in the know.
Same thing for e.g. Chinese, you can't represent tones with unaugmented Roman characters.

This line of reasoning troubles me. Calling swaths of people narcissistic and antisocial isn’t productive and comes off as really hateful and bitter. IDK. Maybe hacker news isn’t a healthy place for me to be. Perhaps I need to take a break from the Internet.
