Cellphone emergency broadcasts turned out to be not reliable during the Hawaiian Island fires.
RDS in FM has a special mode for emergency broadcasts and some countries use them. As FM signals easily cover a 50-75 mile radius, the coverage area is huge versus cellular emergency broadcasts requiring the towers to be powered on which have also failed during natural disasters.

I can receive RNZ on shortwave on the East Coast of USA! About 10,000 miles away if we count the signal bouncing multiple times between the ionosphere and the ground.
My current Android phone has a FM radio that doesn't even require a wired headphone as the FM antenna is built-in. If you connect your BT headset, the FM station is heard through the BT headset in full stereo.
Of course, it is a Chinese brand who haven't forsaken FM radios. Apparently, Europeans still prefer a FM radio on their smartphones that Chinese brands that sell in Europe still retain them.
Here in USA, people don't seem to care about radio.

The bandwidth for AM transmissions in North America is only 20 kHz and radio emissions has to STRICTLY fall within that bandwidth. Technically, it allows an audio BW of 10 kHz, but in practice it is close to 4 kHz which is telephone quality.

FM broadcasts do a high pass at 50 Hz and stop at 15 kHz. The best SNR is only ~50 dB which is already achieved by plain old SBC. There is no need for higher fidelity audio codecs like AAC/aptX/aptX HD/LDAC besides the fact that most smartphones don't support aptX or aptX HD.

For emergency comms(remember, emergency services provided by the state don't monitor the ham bands, so can't call them), a $20 ham radio would work or just carry FRS radios.

My eyes are 30" to 36" away from the monitor. The original reason for getting a big monitor was the idea that looking at something that far relaxes the ciliary muscles in the eye. I don't have to turn my neck at this distance and I don't get any headaches even if I stare at it for 10+ hours/day though my original point still stands which is I end up using only the center of the monitor.
That is very big. You would end up getting neck pain as you have to physically move your head to look at extremities of the screen.
I use a 32" monitor and I find that I use only the center of the screen. I would downsize if not for vertical real estate.
