You can copy existing sections of your factory with Ctrl-C and paste ghosts with Ctrl-V. There's also a paste buffer that you can scroll through with the mouse wheel.

Depending on how old your kids are, they might enjoy playing Factorio with you. My daughter is 3, and she is always up for playing "The Train Game". She mostly enjoys telling me what colours my trains should be and where I should drive them, so I need to use a more train-based system than I would otherwise.

Some WW2 battles were fought at significantly shorter ranges than that. Just in the Malta campaign, at Cape Passero the Italians closed to around 1700m before opening fire. In the attack on the Tarigo convoy, the British closed to 1800m before opening fire and approached as close as 50m to the Italian ships.

There was an article in the Globe and Mail a few days ago saying each store was averaging about 10 sales/week, which certainly meshes with the store always being empty.

A big driver is that wind and solar have only recently become economical. The price of solar power has fallen by 80% since 2010, so large scale plants are all very new. Capacity factors for wind are also improving rapidly, from 25% in 2000 to over 40% today.

Basically we've had 150 years to build out hydro, 70 to build out nuclear, and only a few for wind and solar.

The Congreve rockets were inspired by the rockets used by Mysore starting in 1780. So there were military rockets in use at the time of the US war of independence, they just weren't being used by either of the combatants in that war.

China doesn't produce much natural gas domestically, and the last few years have been a lesson to them in how dangerous relying on other countries for manufacturing inputs is.
