When you are trading at a P:E ratio of 50 you are expecting some phenomenal growth and at LinkedIn's size that growth is pretty hard to get. Scaling it back to 25 seems pretty damned reasonable honestly.

I can't imagine the scope of a project that would move water 1500 miles over a mountain range. From the Missouri valley to western Kansas is a 3000 ft elevation change. You are literally trying to get water to flow uphill.

I think the other side of the problem though is that if you can still get 100X performance from what we have today, but it costs 100X in power, you will still have a problem where few can really use it. Consider phones as one data point. Even quadrupling the power draw will make the chips unsuitable for use.

I seriously don't understand the logic behind this whole article. Is he really afraid of the google play store disappearing? Is he aware that you can install an apk from anywhere after changing one setting? Virtually everything that's been shut down by Google has had a graceful shutdown where you could export your data in a calm manner.

I've always found the "letter of the law" types to be the most dangerous sort around, and that's not at all limited to programming. They're the ones who make authoritarianism work, the ones who tattle at the first sign of "not following the rules", the ones with absolutely no imagination, no curiosity, and an unwillingness to think for themselves.

If there are too many of these around or too many in your management chain you should get the hell out. But maybe that's just me.

I think the point is that they are trying to claim "it's only metadata!" Well that's more than enough to identify you.
