secure a good job now before the job openings freeze up.
This tweet where he calls out needing to fire 12 floors of staff might suggest otherwise;
This has nothing to do with homeless.
Elon is saying the staff could be replaced by the homeless and it would be a better use of the office and money.
This is about putting the staff on notice a house cleaning is coming.
Silicon Valley / SF have had a stranglehold on the digital economy for the last 20-30 years -- nearly anything that touches electrics or software had a "tax" where some portion of that innovation flowed back as cash.
With covid / the great reset, I've seen so many leave the bay area now that they can work remote. It's occured to me that SV / SF will need to reinvent itself and be in a rough patch for a couple years. The benefit to the rest of the americans is that all those high paying jobs and new ways of doing business are being dispersed throughout the rest of the USA which is better for all of us in the end.
The internet exploded post financial crash.
The iphone invented a whole new platform for ideas.
The economy moved substantially online during this time.
It was a transformative moment in technology being driven out of silicon valley / sf.
i work in sf. i'm in florida right now for the nhl finals and covid is fake news here, and it's utterly refreshing.

To think this time is different is to be ignorant.
it's so weird. i know it'll be cold in feb in minnesota. i know this because i have experience. and that experience translates into my ability to give guidance. if you want to be taken serious, you need experience to be able to estimate.
i agree with you.
folks over 65 and 40% BMI got their go in life. prioritizing around the make makes more sense to me.
thankfully the lockdowns are no stomach anymore in most of the states. a visit to an airport and any city not in california or ny and you can see and feel the difference in an instant.
that it's normalized is his point
shame on us for that
google is the same.
we all win with the services and products these companies offer, and that's why they can do that.
sold my company to atlassian in 2006. i worked at atlassian for nearly a decade. ran bitbucket for years. ran product at docker after that.
any notion that engineers should not be on customer calls, or driving engineering specs is the opposite of what i would consider the best implementation of agile.
why would anyone want to talk to you on any day.
what an awful comment to something so beautiful.
i would love this as an art piece.
if you were willing to make one to sell i would buy it.
Right, so Target, grocery stores, hardware stores, and everyone else, can't sell their own value products too then right? Seems like those shelves are platforms to me.
I'm fine with 'big tech' not being able to sell products/services on their platform, but i want the same standard for other businesses as well.
I wonder how much the locals thought the same thing when the Dutch East India company setup shop.
What goes around, comes around.
businesses go through these challenges all the time.
the fat that gets trimmed is what makes them better.
Companies setup subsidiary corporations in states employees are in if the tax situation makes sense.
This is especially true if you use an outsourced HR company like TriNet for payroll, which many startups do.
Check out the economist cover article for this week. Goes over it in detail.
social distancing is the cancelation of conferences (google canceled theirs), not having sporting events (italy), not sending kids to school, etc, etc.
don't use their products then?
There is not a problem.
There are several companies competing for ad dollars and using various platforms (search, Instagram, etc) to feed ad systems for revenue. Their systems are extremely targeted and I like the optimized ads for new brands that are finding me.
Additionally, Chinese companies are doing the same and will combine even greater amounts of data — size is extremely valuable in an economic war of east vs west. I choose us.
It's so weird... when Google employees had a revolving door with the white house for Obama (voted twice for him and Hillary) nobody cared.
It's utterly ridiculous that tech gets upset when someone they don't agree with uses their tools to accomplish something alternative to their ideas. This is the exact narrative the right uses to describe how hypocritical the left is.
couldn't agree more.
when i read Zuck's post, I thought to myself he has a solid vision on how to compete with the Chinese companies that have huge overlaps with how he thinks mobile will be used in the coming decade.
This is what a union does. Lots of folks like these structures.
These mid-size and larger companies offer defined pay, bonus, perks, expectations, and many other predictable attributes. This structure is of a high value to folks who prize stability, to take care of things like their family.
CarPlay is amazing and keeps getting better. The new beta 13 is a solid upgrade from 12 -- even as a beta.
These are cloud products with subscription revenues that are sticky with predictable churn.
Never understood why people devalue them. MSFTs turn around and valuation are based on the O365 pivot. Very impressive.
Lived in SF for 10 years.
The strong liberal politics are turning me conservative on many issues.
