This should be a contreversal comment, so I'm going to say now that I'm just posting this rebuttal and not getting into an e-argument.

The criminal system isn't for punishment. It's for reform. It's not to 'get back' at people, it's to help integrate people back into society and act as a deterrent to stop crime in the first place. You're not trying to 'execute this fucker and others like him', you're trying to figure out what's wrong, how you can reform (if possible), and deter other crimes like it. If you're just executing it's a hell of a deterrence, but you're not reforming at all.

Could you elaborate? I'm interested in knowing more. Where were you, how much did it cost, what services were provided?

I still think the right click save as is still the most troubling. Besides that you missed a couple of points, I'll help identify them here.

-Most people prefer to have emails off to stop the kind of tracking you mentioned in your watermarking point. Advertisers do this all the time.

-Could you elaborate on the quoting? I think the original poster meant that once you SEND a mail through nofwd the receiver cannot easily quote part and reply to you as they could with a text email. I think you're confusing the person doing the quoting with the original sender.

-III) is a matter of personal preference I guess. You mentioned that you see this working in government situations, there's no way they would implement this technology if there was no fallback for their disabled workers. Lawsuits everywhere!

-The archive you keep at nofwd.com - is it viewable for the receiver? I think once again you've confused the person doing the searching.

I'm pretty undereducated on the whole subject, I just noticed a couple things you might want to go back and address in your rebuttal. I hope you find a userbase for your system!

Edit: I guess the biggest issue I see with the system is that it takes away a HECK of a lot of great functionality from email (copy-paste, embedded replies, privacy as you must show images, accessibility, etc.) while adding a paper thin layer of security. Anyone can just save a copy of the image, or even screenshot their computer. If it's really critical, they can just manually re-enter the info (assuming its something as trivial as sales numbers or a condensed strategy). It seems like nofwd.com is to emails what drm is to media, something that inconveniences legit users while not stopping people from getting around it at all.

I think one of the reasons Hacker News has stayed this simple is that it helps filter out some of the users that don't look past design.

I contend that I get eight dollars of value out of the conveniences the ebook provides. Like I said, to each their own I guess.

To each their own I guess. Personally I love how awesome it is that I can have one book in many places. I can read from my laptop at work, on my phone on the go, and from my tablet at home. Each automatically syncs to the last read page and my notes/highlights move between them. Mind you I don't actually ever USE notes or highlights, but it's pretty cool that that option is there. Sure I like to hold a book in my hands, but the convenience of an ebook is really hard to beat.

Plus if I have a moment to read and I want a new book, I don't need to wait 3-5 days for shipping, I can download it instantly. If I'm ever out of the country (as I am now for half a year) I can still get any book delivered to me instantly. For me that's just a convenience, however it's critical for areas that normally have to wait 15-20 days for shipping from a place like Amazon.

EDIT: As a quick note to your edit, you're really ignoring some of the best parts of ebooks while pointing out their worst. I don't own a Kindle however read ebooks through Amazon on three different devices.

I'm Rimbo's teammate, I'll pitch in my two cents. mercadolibre.cl is your goto classified site, however most people in the program don't use it. There's also olx.cl. For housing homechile.cl is pretty good.

We arranged an apartment through homechile.cl before we got down. Honestly I would only recommend that if you've never really travelled before as the place we ended up getting isn't really the nicest. Most people come down and stay at someone else's place, their padrino's (a local arranged to be your goto person) place, or hotel/hostel it for a while. I'd recommend to take your time once you get here finding a place to stay as there are some amazing apartments that you may miss out on if you search online.

I am going to note that you should come down with at least 10k in your pocket. The first reimbursement is very slow, it usually takes about a month and a half to two months. This is because you first need to get your RUT card (identity card, you use it for everything), then have the program prepare the contract, then sign the contract, then wait for their lawyers to sign it. After that (about 3 weeks) you are officially in the program. For our round we could expense things up to this point however a round 3 wave 2 participant told me that they could NOT expense anything until this point as a rule change. This means all those expenses are out of pocket. The reimbursement phase takes about 2-3 weeks and you will NOT get all of your expenses approved the first time you submit. As an example, we only got about 52% approval. There's a lot of little things you need to do for every expense and it's really hard to keep track of them all.

Well, they are just accused, so yes. If I was not a pickpocket however was accused of being one, I'd need to have the financial means to be able to defend myself.

It's annoying. My train of thought when I got there: Good, clean simple interface. Funny name. This text box is huge. I don't know if that's good or bad Everythings scrunched up at the top. I have plenty of vertical room, use it. I'll search for something... alright why is there a loading bar for a search engine? This is frusturating having to wait for my results What? Only 4? This 'load more results' thing is fairly annoying, just load them for me I'll try something else... say 'blue wallpaper' *Oh how handy, I'm at Google now.
