I was talking to a friend in medicine about this recently. Is total automation actually required right now? As others have said, I'm sure politics is a big chunk of why that hasn't happened yet. What if we had tools to help radiologists identify where they should focus their attention in a particular image, and even give them some hinting specific to the contents of that particular image. It would not only save time, but have the added benefit of helping stave off errors caused by fatigue.

Total disaster. But it is possible to promote business growth without loaning $75 million out to a guy with no previous business experience (never mind technology company experience), right?
