One thing developers of products like this can do is offer an accessibly priced license for individual users in a corporation. If it's an indispensable tool for me that I use at work, and the bureaucracy for obtaining even $0.01 USD from the company is not going to happen, the individual license can be a nice middle ground. I can write it off at tax season too.

QT is more accessible than you might assume. The QT Designer comes with a number of templates to get you running quickly. Connecting UI elements to backend code is fairly straightforward as well, and you can do much of it using the designer UI itself. Documentation is also pretty great.

Some of us just prefer it, even without being tethered by other MS dependencies such as Exchange, SQL Server, etc.

Personally, given the choice I would prefer to start a new web API project in .NET because I feel most productive in that environment.

One editor feature I've been looking for is the ability to lock down a region of text so that the user can drag the region around within the text or add text before/after the text. However, the contents of the region can't be edited nor deleted.

The author went through keto flu, which is a series uncomfortable adjustments your body makes as it transitions from glucose fuel to ketone fuel (ketosis). People who begin ketogenic diets know this well. Fasting feels very similar. The most acute symptom is often "brain fog", which manifests exactly how the author described.

Ketosis takes several days to begin while the body burns through its reserves of glycogen, at which point the symptoms begin, then lasts several days while basic adaptation takes place. Full adaptation to match one's athletic performance while glycogen fueled can take months.

The author didn't even mention the words ketosis nor ketones, so I have to imagine she went into this quite blindly. Once you've gone in and out of ketosis several times, you don't experience flu symptoms nearly as much and sometimes (me) not at all.

For most people a fast starts to feel magical after about day 5, where keto adaption has taken place and the mental habit and craving for food starts to subside. Obviously this will vary from person to person, so maybe the author didn't quite get far enough along to get out of the woods, so to speak.

Great! Let me know how it goes. It will be a couple of days before I can try it. Hopefully I can migrate just the schema and cherry pick some relatively static tables. We'll see.

What are my chances of a relatively successful SQL Server migration with several hundred tables and complex views to PostgreSQL using their migration tool?

One thing that helps me overcome template/boilerplate paralysis is when there are a few sentences for each of the submodules that explain what they do, how they fit into the larger picture, and why they were chosen over similar alternatives.

It seems to me that we're still waiting on a breakthrough. FTA:

"There's no saying where machine translation can go when the electronic brain meets the human one."

The neural networks that we modeled after our brains have recently become much faster, and subject to much more input (training data) thanks to our information age, but has the network fundamentally changed?

I foresee something of a plateau with the current model. Yes, in recent decades we've seen exponential increases in MT accuracy and speed, but it's still missing so much in terms of contextual relevance, and tiny errors/hesitations in human thinking/speaking.

Yes, we can improve the algorithms and input processing speed, but are we really on the brink of a breakthrough of something better? I think that remains to be seen.

I have not worked with the Translate Toolkit yet, but I'm a little familiar with a few of the tools. I'm always interested in learning or contributing where I can.

I currently work on a proprietary l10n/i18n system, so a lot of what I do is under an NDA. However, I'm slowly gaining traction in moving us, at least in part, to a more open model.

If you let me know your email, I will reach out.

Thanks for this. I write file parsers for language translation at my day job, so this could be a nice resource to have on hand.
