My context for "learning" Imperial is solely based on measurements of length. I've "learned" it b/c i listen to a lot of US-Centric carpentry podcasts. I've just memorized 1 inch ~ 2.54 cm ; 3/8 inch ~ 1 cm. Most other fraction can be derived from those in the head. At least enough for following a carpentry podcast.
When i need more precision, i use an online converter or a ruler with an imperial and a metric scale. FWIW i only think in metric.

Sadly the machines from the repairable / upgradable era are getting to the end of their lifespan; at least with normal MacOS and standart software.
I'm writingh this on a 2010 mbp on it's third battery, second ram upgrade and new-ish SSD and i'don't know if my next machine will hold up ~10 years when nothing is easily replacable.

While i like the idea to be able to read my feeds from multiple computers, i don't actually need it. In fact, readig them on only one device gives me back (a little bit of) focus.

On Android, OSMAnd is really good and there's also Maps.me.
Imo if you're a outdoor user on Android you should try out Locus Maps. I've used them with the downloads from openandromaps. Imo no other program comes close in terms of capabilities.
Palm really had the PIM suite down. A lot of other parts of WebOS were great, too.

yeah, but compared with other services like WWW mail is IMO harder. You deal with two main Protocols and a lot of software. While mail takes 11 components in your tutorial, you'd get a website in 4. And some parts are hard to debug. I have very little means to debug why my mail wasn't delivered to my bosses gmail.
I've been running a mailserver for ~15 Years.
I found it to be very time consuming and complicated, mainly because of the trouble of outgoing mail.

The trick (as with almost any other field)? Practice, practice, practice. That's it. There is no magic sauce there.
Practice isn't the only ingredient to the magic sauce. The learning input also has to be in a form which the learner can understand. If i tell you to practice a backflip until you can do it you'll likely injure yourself - or walk away, frustrated - before you can do it. If i would analyze the and split up the movement and teach it to you in little steps you will most likely learn it faster. If we could use a trampolin you'd learn even faster.
How to break things down into little steps is one of the most important parts of teaching. The other one - you're correct there - is how to foster motivation.
It's sad that so few kids read at their grade level but it's not because of sub-optimal teaching methods that much is for sure.
My observation as a teacher is, that some are frustrated. Maybe they hit a wall (a steep learning curve) with their learning and weren't motivated enough to push through. More motivation could help, but so could a learning design that doesn't have walls/steep learning curves.

As a german who moved from berlin to the south of germany:
living in berlin feels like living in a failed bundesland. the public transport is broken all the time, the bürgerämter are crowded, you can't appointments, the administration is basically clueless, ...
i guess if you don't rely on public services it's not that bad, but still, berlin is a very bad example for a functioning german place.

* classification (x is a letter and lowercase)

This insights are very useful if you want to make - for an example - a pre-numeric mathematical game concerning quantities.Montessori does not provide such deep insights into pre-numeric mathematics.
