Tyvak Nano-Satellite Systems -- Irvine, CA -- Full Time & Interns

Tyvak is currently ~16 engineers focused on building turnkey CubeSat/Smallsat solutions. We have several exciting new projects ramping up so it's time to grow the team further including full time positions in: - Spacecraft Controls - Embedded Software Engineering - Electrical Engineering - Mechanical Engineering - Spacecraft Systems Engineering - RF Engineering

Tyvak provides Nano-Satellite and CubeSat space vehicle products and services that target advanced state-of-the-art capabilities for government and commercial customers to support operationally and scientifically relevant missions.

We build high performance small satellites using commercial off the shelf components running Linux. Our team is currently 11 engineers in various disciplines. You’d be the 12th and the second with a full time embedded software focus.

We’re looking for someone with specialization in embedded software development, preferably with experience in mobile and low-power SOC platforms, such as OMAP, DaVinci, and SAM series.

Very dense = high ballistic coefficient = longer orbital lifetime

Though I generally agree that CubeSats are relatively safe / low junkyness.

In fact, most (US only maybe?) CubeSats have to demonstrate an orbital lifetime of less than 25 years to get a frequency allocated. (The FCC regulating space debris via frequency allocation is an interesting debate for another thread.)

I agree that it’s surprising. I hope we get a postmortem; I’d like to know why they are closing the doors. Lack of traction (seems like they had some though)? Trouble monetizing?
