If one would have to be an idiot to write server sotware (because one would be liable for things beyond her or his control), only idiots will write servers. If this sounds glib, it's only because the suggested regulations here are so utterly insane.
I think it's also important to try and forge connections between software people like and your DE. Photoshop sells Macs even though there were many years when it was better-supported on Windows.
I have to say that reading HN does not give me the impression that its posters tend to be anti-Apple.
While this is very sad, I think he would have wanted us to remember that working in a field so young that you have occasion to mourn people who built its foundations is inherently exciting.
