The funny thing about most of these systems is that they are all made of plastic. For towns with bad water quality I understand it but for most towns with limited or no PFAS I feel like there is the risk that you could be making the water worse

It is true… that is literally their governmental type. There are religious parties in Israel (just like the religious are largely in the GOP in the USA) but that doesn’t make it theocratic… unless you bend the definition of theocracy beyond all meaning.

For one, Israel does not control the Gaza border with Egypt (which shocker... Egypt does). Israel has provided a ton of humanitarian aid to Gaza over the years including water and electricity but they do not control their water or electricity (kinda hard to do that or even claim that is being done since they don't have a presence in the country).

Have you never used the open source models? They are getting really good - better than 3.5 for sure not as good as 4 except when domain trained in my opinion

In my experience infuse only technically worked on about half my library, the other half caused crashes and the UI is definitively not streamlined for the media server use case (it feels like I should just be using VLC on iOS via DLNA or something at that point)

I’m not convinced they are correct about the feature being opt out rather than opt in - I just checked on my server and I am opted out and this is the first I’m hearing of this feature.

Edit: According to the roll out post they will prompt you to opt in when you log in to Plex after the roll out but you do have to opt in, it’s possible I just missed the prompt and others opted in without reading? It may have been different for beta users as well

In my opinion if your use case is watching your small collection of your own tv shows and movies on your computers use jellyfin, for anything else use Plex.

I love and have used both and while Jellyfin is great at that one thing if you need good mobile support or Roku/Apple TV support or similar it just fails miserably. If you want to have a music or audiobook collection it does even worse.

I don’t understand how people don’t think the government doesn’t have the authority to regulate international commerce. They literally do this all the time, banning trade or goods from one country or another. I don’t think any country in the world guarantees citizens access to the international market.

I think for some reason since this is more public facing people seem to think it is somehow different than bans on Russian firearms or engaging with literally any commerce with Iran.

I feel exactly the same way. I’d probably be happier wrt to work if I could be hybrid but being remote lets me live in a smaller town, in a place I love for everything else. I wouldn’t trade it for pretty much anything.

Migration is still much higher to the USA from Europe than the other way around so at least wrt the USA migration is actually helping the problem.

Apple could put in as many oem checks as they want, hell, even throw a persistent warning in the settings menu or something to inform and even dissuade but they should absolutely allow it at the end of the day.

A lot of it is brand protection to be honest. I’ve seen so many cheap “refurbished” iPhones in the past with absolutely terrible cheap parts put in them. For end users this is most immediately apparent when the screens are 3rd party (terrible color, irregular backlighting etc) but these days it is a lot harder to use 3rd party parts.

I think there is an argument to be made that these protections preserve the used Apple market because people can actually trust it for the most part (we certainly see that reflected in the prices). I imagine the lifespan of an iPhone is much longer than a comparable (by footprint) android device.

I’m my mind right to repair trumps all these upsides but it isn’t as clean as it always seems imo.

In less layman's terms from someone that is still a layman - isn't it less akin to exposure therapy and more that it modulates the immune response from one type to another (IgE to IgG4), the second response being less associated with the traditional symptoms of allergies but for which we are not entirely sure what the full impacts are? In other words the body still responds abnormally but with a different mechanism. Furthermore we aren't entirely sure why high levels of exposure shift the response from one IG to another?
