As a customer, guess what? I get it, it'll take longer to get my stuff. No big deal. It means a lot of people are being responsible, shopping online, and hopefully sending gifts rather than spreading COVID. Retailers should just not make shipping promises they can't keep, reasonable people will understand.

Agreed, good to call them out, if this is intentional, but about the only way to stop this stuff is to stop using their browser.

I switched back to Firefox a few years ago. I know they've had their issues recently but still probably the least evil browser.

Del.icio.us 6 years ago

The new owner is the developer of pinboard.in. The pinboard API was modeled after del.icio.us, so it might just be a data import into pinboard exercise.

This seems pretty normal. I suspect this is similar to reasons why it's hard to read a really wide line of text, or that some people put a sheet of paper under their current line while reading. Something about how our minds can manage smaller groups more easily. Probably related to how telephone numbers split up and why we put commas or spaces in numbers like 1,000,000.

Did you have specific areas where there should be more automation? There is a lot of automation in farming. The tractors can drive themselves and planters continuously monitor and correct themselves. What is your definition of milking by hand? I suspect the percentage of cows milked by hand is extremely low. Even small family farms use milking machines.

Good question, seems like it's still being determined, but apparently the US president has made some statements that suggest it does. Being a doctor does come naturally to him of course.

Hey, I like the idea of trying to make remote more seamless, it's certainly a need. Looks like nice work so far. I do agree with some of the other comments that some folks would like a "knock" type feature to give a warning, clearly you get the concern from your gif. Keep it up and personally I think it's great to see more options for this.

The FAQ doesn't address it completely in my opinion.

Many people believe PDF to be “impossible to edit,” but beware: minor edits in PDFs, such as swapping figures on an invoice, are trivial — therefore you need other technologies, such as digital signatures, to verify that your PDFs have not been tampered with.

That's not really the point that it can't be edited, the value to me is that the sender has confidence that it will look the same to the receiver as the sender.

Before we get all crazy here, he decided to tear down the house on his own. It wasn't blown up. Heavily damaged yes? Salvagable, probably. Insurance game him money. He spent a bunch of money on a bigger new house.

It's like getting into a car accident and going to buy a nicer, more expensive car before the insurance comes back. Sure you can do it, but that's on you to pay.

I wonder why Wisconsin went through the trouble vs some incrementing id. It seems like it was understood 2 people could end up with the same number so the last two digits were added. That would rule out the benefit of unique ids without requiring a single central system to ensure uniqueness.

It does make it harder to fake an id, perhaps that was the motivation.

Edit: Some more interesting info for the states that implement this. Also, TIL Illinois drivers can appear to have the exact same DL number. http://www.highprogrammer.com/alan/numbers/dl_us_shared.html

Sorry, but this is just so irresponsible. I'm sure I'll be corrected, but it almost needlessly resulted in taking a liver away from someone that needed it not as a result of their own stupidity. Oh, and then while in an emergency room on the brink of death questions why the alternative medicine some friend found online was never used.

You are jumping to conclusions. Because the HN UI is not everyone's cup of tea, there are a lot of people that have reworked the UI for mobile, etc. Also, there isn't or wasn't an HN API, so scraping was the only option. Finally, there's a lot of people who take on the exercise for fun, so you get "HN in VueJS" which aren't nefarious, just exercises.

Look at your results, why would you think "React HN clone" on github.io was something other than just a personal fun project.
