You can't go home again. I think an argument could be made that tools like Moveable Type and Blogger and Wordpress made the web. And, another argument could probably be made that seo-chum "articles" like this (and ad networks) broke the web. But, really Twitter and FB and YouTube are probably the most likely killers.

Fun to see this on HN. What an incredibly strange, amazing and beautiful book. Ambition as wide as the ocean. I think both Ishmael and Mellville were nuts. I'm attempting to finish it right now (again). I've tried multiple times to get all the way through. I've joked that Moby Dick is actually my Moby Dick.

This is going to get some love. Its the right product insight(even the simplest template driven sites are too hard once you get past the basics). You're working off a good consumer insight ("i want this site to look very different"). I like the details (chaos monkey). Super simple to understand and use.

Like many others, his was one of the very first sites i came upon in my search for great bike nerd info.

In addition to the incredible depth of very practical info, the fact that his site exists is a demonstration of what the pre-commercial web was all about: 1 guy contributing knowledge for the benefit of many others, giving time/effort for the greater good.

Never met him, but i miss him.
