Start by filtering out every publicly traded company. Eliminate every company not still run by the founder. Nothing that's about to IPO. Nothing involving ads. That's a start.

Says something rather concerning about our economy's ability to innovate. Short term profits always end up eating at the core like this. I see why Elon has kept several of his companies private. The market lacks vision.

I'd say startups. At the very least, it seems like companies where the founder stays on after getting rich tend to do better. Avoid Day 2 companies.

It's called a union. This is what will always happen as long as the employees do not collectively bargain. Their strength in numbers is completely neutered by a lack of organization.

I often have an issue with authority because it tends to be applied at the macro level and I differ from the average so the rules often manifest as oppressive.

Part of being confused by normal practices is that a lot of practices feel abnormal by default so we don't emphasize those expected actions the same way other people to. When most things feel foreign even obvious stuff takes on that vibe. Why wouldn't I help the bystander? Not because I'm better but because it's just as likely a choice as not. Very little bias there.

Agreed. Java injection frameworks are opaque and accomplish what they need to with overly powerful mechanisms because of the nature of the language. You don't see that sort of nonsense in python.

That's because everyone in this comment section is giving wisdom about how to deal with the emotional reality of being abstracted from the fruits of their own labor. "Don't get attached to your work" is dystopian.

I feel like the bit about not disabling security features will provide some crucial limitation to apple's advantage. They have a habit of bleeding security into hardware components.

Different components of thought should be specialized. Choosing the meta structure will likely have an impact on what the system can achieve simply by the benefit of compartmentalization.

The issue is that we are prone to inflate the complexity of our own processing logic. Ultimately we are pattern recognition machines in combination with abstract representation. This allows us to connect the dots between events in the world and apply principles in one domain to another.

But, like all complexity, it is reduceable to component parts.

(In fact, we know this because we evolved to have this ability. )

A more insidious failure is how google maps does not always show local businesses. When I lived in another city I would search for "tacos" and I would get Taco Bell. Never mind there were five local places that serve tacos nearby. These were not deprioritized, they were never listed. Search for them directly and they come up. But broad search.... you realize that the yellow pages app is actually better at a comprehensive list of businesses.

The real issue IMO is that users do not understand that ads pay for their apps. They don't want to see ads and the ads they do see they want them to be uninformed and general. They want everything free. This just encourages subscriptions. Which we're seeing become more and more common.

Meh. Smells of "rockstar developer" thinking. I'll pass. This is a job.

Simple carbs have low satiety and come with a glucose spike. Complex carbs are much better in this regard and are far more nutritious.

The next level past becoming aware of nutrition is becoming aware of meta nutrition, or the culture around nutrition. Do not fall in to the trap of demonizing nutrient after nutrient. It never ends.

I assume open ai is limiting the AI's memory. But there's no reason for it to not take its own identity as reality and persist that decision to storage. That's just how it's being run right now.

You'd pay that for a laptop. And I think that's part of this, these companies really believe they're looking at the next consumer device on the scale of the iPhone if they can just get the transportability and input interfaces figured out. The quest 2 is so very close, it's just a tad too heavy, a tad too low quality display, and with a mobile operating system.

Just replacing the custom android OS on that thing with a fully fledged iOS like interface would go a very long way IMO.

The Supreme Court has allowed gerrymandering and dark money, both of which serve to make the American government completely unbeholden to their constituents. There is no recourse in the legislative branch as long as elections are decided by who writes the map and who pays for the ads.

And I’m not sure you don’t know that. I’m not sure that this ain’t a ploy. “States rights!” You say. “Solve it in the legislative!” You say. And when those efforts fail because the systems for choosing those representatives is rigged, what will you say? You will blame the voters. And all the whole more and more goes away and all the while you blame the voters.
