I used to work at LinkedIn (owned by microsoft) and about 2 years ago they announced engineering was switching from zoom/slack to teams. There was significant uproar and LinkedIn leadership ended up reversing the decision. To my knowledge LinkedIn engineering is still on zoom/slack.

Speed and uptime are also features. If customers like speed/uptime (they do) we need to make sure management prioritizes them and understands how certain features will work against speed/uptime.

We should take into account the amount of time he spends being recorded, the frequency of the incidents, and the trends of the incidents over time. I think most everyone has said something wrong in the last 12 years. If it happened 12 years ago and hasn't happened since, then I'll give him a pass. If it's a repeating thing, then I'll judge more harshly.

There's a shortage of software engineers and we need more students to enroll in STEM. When deciding between an expensive STEM degree or a free liberal arts degree, students are incentivized to chose the free degree in your proposed solution.

I really like this idea, only edge case I wonder about is if such a policy would incentivize colleges to avoid letting in students from low income backgrounds.

I agree with you, but I do think it really is a problem that students disproportionately choose the "useless" degrees rather than STEM fields. I anecdotally know of many who in hindsight wish they had studied computer science or something more employable.

Does the US actually get poor returns on K-12 education? I assume that public K-12 education contributes a lot to the economy in the form of an educated population. Wouldn't both the economy and tax revenue shrink without K-12?

I think if there were a clear path to increased salary that came with the job, people wouldn't milk benefits but would start down the path that leads to growth. So I think OP is dressing it up to show that in the absence of a path towards growth, people just milk benefits.
