Right I agree, the new model does seem quite punitive especially if you don't have an existing business model.
Imagine a new developer publishes a free app without a plan for monetization, and then it goes viral. They would be on the hook for thousands of dollars.
Unless they have a reason to switch most new apps will likely stick to the old model
As threeseed mentioned, most free apps esp. those without a per-install revenue source (e.g., Wikipedia) will likely not use the new model and stick with the old model which doesn't charge per app install
As an aside, look how clear and well-written this web page is. I'm always blown away by how well the whole Apple ecosystem (even the the developer documentation) is designed
But you could just pay for both ChatGPT and the AI classifier, and keep re-iterating with new prompts until the AI classifier outputs a false negative right?
Edit: Thinking about it, they'd probably have to eventually restrict the AI classifier so that it would only be available in to schools / institutions in this scenario.
Is there a way to check if you've been compromised by these PyPl packages? Does PyPl have a mechanism to let people know that they've downloaded a compromised package?
As in general with associative studies, it is hard to make a distinct conclusion on causation.
Do we know if alcohol decreases gray and white matter volumes? Could the causation run in the reverse direction? Bi-directionally? Or could there be some common cause (e.g., proneness to "risky" behavior) that leads to both?

So if mid and late-stage companies continue to innovate for e.g. the purpose of productionizing CRISPR, the effect of the original patent will lessen in value. A nice note that there continues to be an incentive for progress in this space.
Ah I see, yeah this is a newish feature and still doesn't support GSuite accounts as the main driver.
It just lets you link your consumer account to your GSuite (for calendars, etc.)

Agree this is great to hear, but the fact that they had X-ray diffraction data indicates this protein was indeed crystallizable no?
Though the next paragraph in the article shows that DeepMind is indeed working on mapping out reliability:

(It previously published enough details about the first version of AlphaFold for other scientists to replicate the approach.) GDT_TS for AlphaFold is now comparable is at experimental levels; but that's based on the class of proteins for which we've been able to determine the 3D structure of the protein, for which there might be selection bias.
I wonder if we can determine if this extends to proteins that aren't as keen to determining their 3D structure?
For example, certain proteins are more crystallizable than others.. For these non-crystallizable proteins, I wonder if we can say that AlphaFold would generate accurate 3D models? And if possible, might there be a way to map out this uncertainty?
Five years ago, I would have said the following:
"If someone produces an AI that you give a sequence and it tells you the protein conformation, I'd be extremely impressed".
Sure there are many more things to solve in this space; but that doesn't take away that this is an impressive achievement and does unlock quite a few things (including making more tractable the problem you just brought up). I'm excited to see what DeepMind works on now and what the new state of the world will be just five years from now.
That's an interesting piece. But I wonder if it's criticizing more the idea of "working in a vacuum" without taking into account what's going on in the world, as opposed to "focused work" (which imho, can still be work on something culturally aligned).
Ah still? Interesting. Maybe supply is geographically dependent, as I'm seeing Chromebook availability in Walmart / Amazon / directly from Acer. The sub-$200 laptops are mostly used or renewed though, so maybe school districts are more hesitant to purchase those.
Even for non-STEM students, the Pi setup seems fairly accessible.
From a quick online search, I could find monitors for $30 - $50 and webcams $20 - $30 which is pretty price competitive with a $200 - $300 Chromebook. The Pi community would help with any driver installation issues, and the Pi setup seems powered up enough to run Zoom with no issues.
Though I do see even cheaper Chromebooks in the same price range, so I wonder why / how districts are not able to provide these to students.
I don't think we're arguing the functionality of the design; this is purely based on the phone's aesthetics. (And, for those of us with trypophobia, our opinion on the design is likely due to a deeply rooted instinctual and evolutionary reaction.)
First the new Mac Pro and now this. I guess Apple is all about circles this year :P
Not only are they "designed to allow patients as little sleep as possible", but also doctors too. Residents and doctors frequently have take on 30-36 hour shifts.. How they could effectively treat patients with this level sleep deprivation is beyond me.
Maybe hospitals just have a vendetta on sleep in general?
