Libertarians will say this is ok

I couldn't have said it better myself.

Every time I've used Android every UI was bloated, slow and buggy. It's surprising the author has found something in particular to complain about.

The only thing I got from this post is that I want to seriously avoid working with a person who expresses themselves in such an unproductive way.

I don't want websites to work offline.

Also, it bothers me that websites can install themselves like that without my permission or knowledge.

Exactly my same feeling. And what's worse, is that I don't really know what those entries (.js files) can do. Can they exec code whenever they want? Or every hour? Or every minute? Can they see what I do? Can they call home (and know my IP even if I'm not visiting those websites)? Why do I have to read a technical spec to learn about this?

I already have free press, cronyism and corruption. They are perfectly compatible.

One thing I used to love about websites is that I knew once I closed the tab the site was gone forever and it was not allowed to execute any more code. That was heaven.

But now with web workers and service workers and god knows what else, I feel like I've lost that security, and that makes me uneasy. It's a security and a privacy issue.

I know I can disable all that stuff in about:config but how do I know they haven't invented some other new technology in the past months that I should be aware of?

Or maybe they think this is acceptable, in the interest of security. I personally find this kind of stuff acceptable.

Kudos to this guy. As the maintainer of an open source project, the hardest job is to tell people "your idea is stupid and I won't do it"

From my experience: they fork every lib and they don't contribute back. Just look at the list of libs that are built into Chrome.

They invented using those things right, so I don't get spam.

Gmail won because it fixed the biggest pain points with HTML email and spam. And so many years later nobody has come even close. That's not their fault.

And thank God for that. That's why their antispam is sooo good.

If it hasn't been proven then there's nothing to talk about. They could've made it up just so he they can kick him out.

You can indirectly, and you don't need to have a moral high ground. I wouldn't care about that, I would only care about my wellbeing, the wellbeing of my family, and the price of my house.

People are easily manipulable. This was the case since forever, but tech has amplified it, and tech has given us the data to back up how easy it is to manipulate people.

Tech people are terrified of CA because CA shows them how deeply flawed their beloved liberal democracy is. They already suspected that but they swept it under the carpet, but now that they are forced to watch it because of this Facebook thing, it's time to shut everything down and shoot the messenger instead of shutting down the flawed system.
