Uh, is it just me or does this seem like much fuzz about nothing?
If I don't like an app for whatever reason, I just find another one which suits me. No one forces me to use an app I don't want to use.

I wish he could add a section of authors who tried to defend and enlighten during this mess, as I have some dollars over for rewarding those who think before they act.
I really don't get what is so "tedious" with OAuth 1.0a and encryption? It's so simple it's almost ridiculous...
I might be completely off the track.. But as it is games we are talking about of which mostly attracts the <18 year old audience...
How many of those have a credit card readily to pay for apps and games on an android phone?

Currently XFCE is my desktop environment of choice, but if Mate is adaptable to my needs I might switch.
Not to be a "Negative Nancy", but quite a bit speaks against G3's current direction in terms of blog posts and participation.
Especially the latter is easy to verify. Go to their mailinglists and see the level activity, it sure does not look very good. Reading the actual mailinglists gives sometimes a quite disturbing image as well, with a few examples already linked in Mr. Ottes mentioned blog post.
The current RasPi community is not the community it was really intended for. It's primary audience is kids and youngsters and allowing them to get a feeling for a computer.
And kids today are way smarter than I was at their age. They catch on very quickly and their curiosity as well as thirst to learn allows them to quickly adapt the RasPi to their wishes.
Or at least require each and every voting member to implement the standard in a freely chosen programming language. On second thought... Might not work so good for large standards as HTML5 though, writing your own parser, renderer and layouter :)
I'm in as well.
1. The life time of patent is too long. If you can't make a profit from it the first 5 years, it would be better as public domain.
2. Patents which are bought by a person/company with the sole intention for extortion, i.e. not actively using the patented method/process/whatever should not be allowed.
but hey, that is just my opinions.
Well, with ads on the blog one better be milking it for every drop there is.
I've stopped taking any HN-linked blog seriously if they have ads on them, because it's hard to decide if they are serious with their opinion/stance or just baiting to get impressions.
Definitely the wrong direction, because it can go wrong on so many ways.
Myself I am a victim of for-profit education (well, my spouse is), effectively locked in by contract at a company for 10+ years more. It sounds so good in the beginning, but once you finish your studies and you stand in front of that loong walk...
