I agree, and found the article funny.

The parts about accessibility, data portability, and alternative interfaces are very relevant: protocols instead of software, open standards.

Remember the various messenger clients and then stuff like Trillian Pigeon etc?

It’s pretty hard to become a surf champion if you grow up in Minnesota and stay there. Each new “reality bubble” or “box” I created in response to different circumstances in a different environment. I changed, or rather, different sides of my personality had to develop to adapt to a different environment.

I’m not speaking as a vacationing cubicle worker, but as someone who completely reinvented himself after age 30, learned a half dozen languages, visited 50 countries usually on local peoples sofas, and then finally changed countries of habitation several times and am now a dual national and feeling both mental boxes quite strongly attempting to box me in.

The part where I agree with the author is that part in which our reality is limited by our own mental box of perception and acculturation.

Our choices and responses to external stimuli determine if we fold or adapt to new opportunities. Will we hide in our shell or will we come out and be molded by new experiences?

Please note, the instagram vacation model is accurate and hollow as outlined by the author, I just think that they copped out with their lame trite conclusion that I have personally found to be untrue.

Skyscrapers are disproportionately tall for their width. This leads to the mentioned lateral movement issues discussed. The great pyramid of Giza does not have such issues due to its literal pyramidic shape with its wide base. It would seem to me, purely based on common sense, that skyscrapers are unnecessarily tippy and flexy due to the bizarre interest in making a thin needle-like building with a small base section.

Why would we not consider simply making tall buildings proportionally wide instead of this obviously flawed tippy needle thingy?

Problems with tippy needles include: foundations and their connections to bedrock, simple physical fulcrum principles, and the obvious inability to spread forces over a larger area. It’s a bit like trying to hold a large Christmas tree up with a small stand with low mass… doomed to problems

There isn’t an infinite carrying capacity to any planet, nor is it reasonable to have excess of a singular species for it is at the expense of others.

Some may have hurt feelings if you explain that more than 2 kids increases the population, but then “go forth and multiply” is probably not currently sound guidance, given what we now know, vs what we knew, say, 5 thousand years ago. It was arguably bad judgment to completely finish the great grazing herds and the Mastodons but try telling that to a hungry lot of humans.

The more we come to grips with the human as another animal species, one of many on earth, the easier it is to see how our own hubris is the issue everytime.

I think that you are being unreasonable. Logic gives you zero demo trial period and its price is significantly higher. Most audio software is relatively expensive, if you have any experience, which I doubt given your claim that this competes with audacity. Audacity competes with Ntrack, perhaps. This competes with Ableton or Bitwig. Go check their prices

A working recording studio will not change versions, let alone DAWs, given the non significant investment in plugins, time patching routing, probably to a physical patchbay, and hardware controllers or digital mixers that may have firmware compatibility concerns etc. Apples pace in pushing you off their hardware is many times faster than the geological timespan of pro studio upgrades. Note that Harrison mixing consoles funded some of Ardour dev a few years back expressly to use it for their system, adding bespoke plugins etc.

Basically, if it involves in-the-box synthesis and largely programmatic sequencing it’s a different animal than a multi track audio editor optimized for comping takes. Ableton workflow makes it clear how they are streamlining features to fit the electrónica (everything is electrónica these days, in terms of the production techniques having been appropriated by everyone else.) And trackers and such are one of the original opinionated platforms expressly for making machine music, as Frooty and it’s ilk like Orion added audio tracks and recording features much later. They picked c++ because it’s a low level capable language that has a reasonably familiar syntax, and their primary training wheels are these simplified arruino libraries.

The actual runtime framework with its “setup” and “loop” methods is a reasonable proxy for an RTOS or the framework an experienced embedded developer would have built as a general runtime system.

There’s nothing wrong with Arduino, except that its SPI SD card library won’t give you good bandwidth but that’s because they wanted it to be an understandable simple access library for SD cards, and you will need to go further if you want reasonable performance.

Your metaphor that “python is the new basic” stems from desktop computers use of BASIC to teach beginning programming skills on largely 8 bit machines.

Once you started with BASIC you presumably moved to learning assembly language, as many of these machines gained c compilers, you might have tried to obtain one.

The entire point of micropython is a friendly introduction or friendly prototype platform or learning platform. In no way does micro python take advantage of the hardware nor could it ever directly talk to hardware.

One should not treat all programming languages the same as they have different purposes and python is not fit for the purposes a c or c++ is fit for, aka memory allocation etc. The number one lesson a beginning embedded programmer should take away from arduino is that controlling hardware is about writing specific bit patterns to memory locations. Sorry, this is not something python can do or was designed for.

Well, I suppose you can examine gun crime statistics in the rest of the world and see that the US gun death numbers per capita cause of death are higher than anywhere except failed states and war zones. Do I need to cite this obvious state of affairs? I can if this part is really in doubt.

Control is largely possible where there is a political will, case in point being Australia and their rather sudden shift and it’s rather obvious results. Deaths from all guns, legal and otherwise, are down, due to concerted efforts to remove guns from circulation.

That some dare to call themselves conservative is a slap in the face to our heritage.
