I will miss the 747. Modern planes with less engines feel less safe. I hate all the justifications used to fly long distances across oceans with only 2 engines, or only 1 engine.

Atlassian was famously bootstrapped and profitable since inception. They were one of the only profitable tech companies at a time when everyone else was busy making bigger and bigger losses.

If they have really been unprofitable for the last decade that is very sad.

Layoffs at Block 5 months ago

So... XYZ stock hits an all time low and they decide to layoff half the staff and see if that raises the share price (it did).

This has nothing to do with AI. It is just a desperate move from a badly run company.

Thanks for sharing, although I don't understand how Saul expects everyone to buy electric cars. They are much too expensive in Australia and the charging infrastructure is not well distributed. Electric cars are also a massive risk in fires (they were a big problem in the LA fires), and Australia has a lot of fires.

Even an electrified kitchen (which Saul also suggests for everyone) is iffy in Australia, because good freestanding ovens with induction cooktops cost about 3x what freestanding ovens with a gas cooktop would cost, not to mention the electrical rewiring costs, which could be substantial especially if a conversion to 3-phase is needed.

A few recent Warner Bros films / coproductions

Imagine if these had not had theatrical releases, or, had only had 1 week limited releases just to qualify for awards..

Dune

The Batman

Barbie

Furiosa

One Battle After Another

I know (knew) quite a lot of people who died in their 60s, to their surprise and mine.

For a very recent example, Rebecca Heineman just died at 62.

To win this console generation and outsell the PS5, Valve would have to sell 85 million Steam Machines (as of today, and likely need to sell 120 million by the end of the generation). About a 0% chance of that happening.

Looks cool, though

I buy used all the time. It is way cheaper and new things are usually not much better (sometimes new things are worse).

For example a lot of new TVs are worse than old TVs, because new TVs have ads in their UIs, and increasingly new TVs don't even come with remotes anymore.

That work building “yet another build tool” could have gone in to programmatically generating bazel BUILD files.

Google did try that for Android (AOSP). They made a tool that generated thousands? of BUILD files to get AOSP building with Bazel.

But the migration to Bazel was aborted for unknown reasons.
