I'm old enough to remember when our pre-bubble, pre-amazon "web"team found about javascript via the web monkey website with it's animated moving arms! Prior, all interaction was via CGI or SSI. I still remember a web teacher at a university teaching a side course, telling us never to use javascript, and showed the NBA site and others. Then a student raised his hand: NBA uses javascript. And the prof, said, "Oh, I have javascript turned off, so I didn't know".

I'm really confused, have all the grown-ups returned to HN? Suddenly after several years of self-congratulatory virtue-signalling, HN realizes that self-righteousness censorship is not risk-free, and has long-term consequences? I'm glad I started coming back to HN. Maybe the long recess from reason is over.

Ah, who took the "hacker" out of hacker news? Would you rather have the stormfront members speaking openly, or getting more educated about the dark web, where they'll be forced to go? I prefer they stay as unsophisticated as possible, openly hosted at godaddy. It's not a false dichotomy. Taking away their hosting is not going to end their site or community. Though it does allow, risk-free opportunity to virtue signal on your favorite platform.

OKC experimented with the matching process -- the express purpose of their site. Facebook experimented with mood manipulation -- something they have no permission to do -- regardless of the fine print. Facebook is a very bad landlord, but people don't want to move.

Software companies can't do software either. It's draconian masters that force usability on programmers that would be happy if the world ran on CLI. You know its the truth, or you haven't really worked with programmers before.

I don't think you know what the word indefensible means. Clearly it is defensible to millions and millions of peopel. But you are too pompous and self-righteous to recognize the cowardice of your own position. Indeed, a hackernews is full of convenient, self-serving, image-crafted self-righteousness.
