Nice. I think there will be a cottage industry of porting every Mac menu bar utility to Claude. I can't use this until it doesn't show seconds. A MM:SS timer is tolerable when it's in my menu bar, but a ticking timer right where my focus is during a work session would be very distracting to me. The best version of this, for me, would be one that leans into Claude's ability to customize its own statusbar. If Claudoro is in charge of writing timer data to somewhere Claude can see it, I can tell Claude exactly how to display the timer in the statusline.

This is a great post, but am I the only person who thinks the AI-generated images are brilliant? They are haunting and disturbing in a good-art kind of way -- if I saw them in a gallery I would think the artist has real talent. I'd certainly think they were better, and more interesting, than most other modern art I see, and there are many artists who try to unnerve the viewer in exactly this way and fail. Maybe I just have bad taste. But I'd love to know exactly which AI the author used to generate them. It certainly wasn't frontier models. Midjourney, maybe, but I don't see how you'd get those images from Midjourney without adding the adjectives "unnerving" or "surreal" or something.

Well this is utterly wonderful.

- Karaoke: a friend of mine did a monthly outing to a karaoke bar and invited me along. It turned into a great friend group as well as a fun skill to practice, and now I host karaoke parties and write karaoke software.

- Theater: got into it in middle school and never looked back. The way to get into it now is either to just audition for community shows, or take classes somewhere.

I have found that cooking, building furniture, sewing and other forms of craft are interesting for the same reasons coding is interesting, but without a group of friends who do that stuff I've found it hard to maintain momentum.

RIP Martin. Just to make this more HN-relevant: even though his book "Money" is popular and regarded as a masterpiece, it is not available on Kindle, or in any ebook format, in the US. It is, however, available on Kindle in the UK. I've always wondered why. Perhaps that'll change now that he's gone.

I re-read this every 5 years or so. It certainly covers a lot of ground on which literary tastes have changed, so it might not hold up for everyone, but what keeps me coming back is how much goddamn fun it is. Even if I thought it hadn't aged well, it'd be easy to forgive because of how utterly hilarious it is. I might have to find myself a hardcover copy. I hope you enjoy the re-read. RIP Martin.

I'm tinkering with The Tüül (https://github.com/incidentist/the_tuul), a site for making a decent karaoke video from any song in about 10 minutes. The members of my monthly karaoke group have been using it for the last year and it's been great to see what they've made. There's a lot of potential for automating some of the markup (such as count-ins, and INTRO/OUTRO/INSTRUMENTAL segments) but I need to redo the data model to make it easier to work with first.

Nice to see this project on HN, and nice so many familiar webOS names on this board. I worked on Word Ace and the Card Ace games back in the day, and got back into playing around with my Pre and TouchPad a few years ago, thanks in part to codepoet80's work.

Rabe is an excellent playwright -- I'll have to check this out. Movies adapted from stage plays are great places to find good dialog, in general. Other examples: A Thousand Clowns, Angels in America.
