when I started in this industry in the 90s, good ops people were software devs who just liked server room stuff...they were the equal of the devs, possibly even superior since they knew what we knew, plus networking and admin

now, almost all ops people I work with are only good for the most trivial tasks - editing hcl files, rebooting servers, looking at datadog charts, pushing buttons in an aws console
