Crack cocaine is designed to be smokable, which makes it far more potent and addictive than regular cocaine . In addition, due to these properties, crack is significantly more correlated to other criminal behaviors than cocaine.

As someone who follows Russian news and political atmosphere. Here’s what’s been happening there as of late: Corona, sanctions and the tremendous drop in oil prices have hit the Russian economy very hard and the situation is projected to get worse. Putin’s rating is the worst it has ever been and the US is currently bipartisan on new, much worse sanctions (rightly so). Putin is becoming desperate. The last time his rating began to drop the invasion of Crimea propped it back up to 90%+ (Russians apparently love invading weak neighbors for territory) and staid that way for a long time despite sanctions and western pressure. Recently, in consistence with the drop in ratings, the saber rattling against Ukraine has picked up a lot. Russia has massed even more troops on the Ukrainian border and preformed a huge mock invasion exercise from Crimea (US reacted by flying stealth bombers in the area). Last week Putin also gave a huge inflammatory interview claiming that Ukraine and other exsoviet countries illegally left the USSR with rightfully Russian territories (a lie). Many see these events as the preparation for another invasion of Ukraine. These nuclear fission byproducts can potentially be the result of Russian weapons tests in preparation for military action that may result in NATO reaction (Ukraine received enhanced NATO status earlier this month, likely in response to the saber rattling). The last time nuclear fission byproducts were detected in the region (last year I believe), it was due to Russia testing a new nuclear engine powered missile with near unlimited range and maneuverability. This missile spews radioactive byproducts as it flies and creates a mini Chernobyl (along with an explosion due to a payload in addition to its reactor engine) where ever it hits. A similar missile was tested in the US but scrapped due to the potential damage to the environment. This of course is just one of many possible explanations for this detection.

It would be awesome if there was a volunteer financed code review group to review popular open source projects. I think I’m not the only one who would happily donate money to such a group for code reviews for various OSS projects. Initial code reviews would require a lot of effort, unless somehow automated, but after that it would be fairly easy to monitor and verify updates and changes to the code.
You can easily get sub 2% in the US if you shop around and have ok volume. Just as much exaggeration in this thread as in the article.
NDAs don’t really stop bad reviews online in my experience. Good luck tying them to any real person with some foresight.
If the stuff about the banjo ceo still being a bad person is true, then he deserves all that’s coming, but if it’s not and it’s just competitors or people with a personal bone to pick pilling on with fake stories then I actually feel sorry for the guy.
People deserve second chances. Particularly for the stuff they do before their brain fully develops at 25 or so.
If he ran away from a highly traumatic home at 15 and ended up with the wrong crowd until he matured, then broke all contact with them, reformed and never showed antisocial behavior again, for the next 20+ years. Instead become a contributing member of society to the point of managing a seemingly successful startup launch. If that’s the guy’s actual story then he truly deserves a second chance from society.
That’s not true, if you’re in Ukraine it is not marked as Ukrainian territory, while in Russia it is now marked as Russian.
This very worrying, particularly because Apple recently caved in and marked Crimea as Russian...

I am with this guy, the above post is a stream of conjectures, half guesses and straight up misinformation. The fact that it’s at the top supports the article. Another noticeable trend is HN’s user base getting dumber and dumber over time.
Unlikely, it’s probably a lot like a sensory deprivation tank. You likely start to hallucinate after a period of time and deteriorate to some strange state of existence.

All of the things the west has done are completely justified in my view, in fact as someone intimately familiar with the state and motivations of Russia, I belive that the west is not doing enough to safeguard itself from the Russian threat that is developing very quickly. Russia had been cheating the INF for years and China was never a part so it was only logical for US to reset. Sanctions are a direct result of agressive, revanchist and murderous actions Russia is taking towards it’s neighbors and the attempts to manipulate politics and destabilize the west. Millitarized space is now a necessity due to Russias development of hypersonic ballistic nukes which avoid our existing missile defence shield, as well as Russia’s own experiments with militarized satellites.
The above opinion get’s circulated quite a bit through Russian media. I speak Russian and check in on what’s going over there from time to time and let me tell you since 2014 shit has really hit the proverbial fan over there, television sensorship is utter and complete, preposterous lies are aired by the hour every hour, news segments are either heavily spun or straight up manufactured with actors and props, tv shows with audience participation train their audience to react only in a government sanctioned way, shows with participants from outside the studio are never live, 90% of Russian news and talk show discussion is about foreign policy, very rarely about the internal state of Russia, the major line being pushed is that NATO is evil and closing in around Russia and it’s only thanks to the efforts of Putin that Russia hasn’t been invaded or destroyed by immigrants, muslims, homosexuals, deviants and atheists like the “dying europe”, oh and the west is actually to blame for everything that goes wrong in Russia and in the entire world really. I can go on and on about the insanity that is present Russia but will only add a few more notes, there is massive militarization of every part of society to go with antiwest hysteria, Young army for the kids and a ton of millitant nationalistic organizations for adults. People are going to jail for likes and reposts of forbidden content on social media and ladt month a new law made it illegal to disrespect government officials with possible fine or jail time as punishment. That’s all I have time to report, but if you thought things were getting cooky in the west lately this quick overview of Russia might make you feel better by comparison.

Agreed. Modern commercially available drones can follow targets, even if they are temporarily obscured, detect faces, path around obstacles and perform preprogrammed tasks. The higher end ones typically carry enough compute power to do fairly advanced video recognition and execute logic. All that’s really missing for weaponization is an articulated firearm.

You don’t need to jump off a tall building to know it’s a bad idea. Even with less obvious things you can infer outcomes based on available data. Available data in social science and reported experiences suggests successful hiring is done based on two criteria: merit and cohesion with the team. That’s it. Outside of a few very particular jobs, diversity of workplace has no intrinsic value that somehow makes up for not hiring based on merit. On the contrary, some studies suggest that “diversity” can actually reduce team cohesion and trust.
USSR did the same thing. Pretty sure it was done to promote competition and not for divide and conquer. Secret police was more than enough to handle dissidents. Hitler and his party actually had a lot of support because most of the bad stuff they did was hidden from the people or justified super hard through propaganda. And as bad as the Nazis were overall they still managed to have major successes in economy and science.
