Mahjong is like religion. The variant you're most comfortable with is the one you were taught. And no one can agree which is the best.

Bad Circuit Design 6 years ago

This website assumes you've studied CMOS circuit design for analog circuitry (amplifiers, analog-digital converters), and have the corresponding course book. It's a good list of when the linear model breaks down and you actually have to do the analysis.

I really like #3, placing a capacitor on a high-impedance node.

Corporate office cancelled our core server hardware line. I saw the pallets of moving boxes come into the office the night before.

I took the opportunity to upload all of my work to the company servers and close out what tickets I could. Came into work the next day in a suit, trying to maintain some semblance of class.

Hardware development got reduced 66%, myself included.

Saw it coming in the nebulous sense, but the layoffs happened about 6 months before I was ready, since I wanted the last product release on my resume.

Took me almost a year before I found stable employment again. 1/10 would not repeat the experience.

Great tool, will have to show my family

Did you account for the principal also accruing value while you're saving up?

E.g. In the HY Savings account for a 1K/month passive income, you need $827,586. If you saved $1K/month, and reinvested that income until you got the $827K, it should only take you 20 years, not 23.

The error gets bigger when looking at longer time frames and higher returns.

Not quite sure if this is sarcasm...

Here's my counter-argument in case you were serious.

Dimwit #1: 555's fail when hell freezes over. An engineering intern can make changes and see it work. The PCB will cost more than the electronics. 555 as a component will be available for years.

Dimwit #2: Arduino/ATMEGA are so well documented that the next engineer supporting this should have no problem making appropriate changes even 10 years from now, assuming Microchip sustains the ATMEGA product line.

Senior Software Developer: You've introduced an attack vector [the web interface], increased the BOM cost [the Linux board], programmed it in a language that changes on a yearly basis [node.js]. Not to mention having to provide a Linux image source programmable [preferably eMMC], and ensuring compatibility of the web config for major browsers for the lifetime of the product. All for a blinking LED.

Odd definition of luxury goods, which makes me wary of the division of necessity vs luxury:

The Deutsche Bank Research report defined luxuries as “goods or services consumed in greater proportions as a person’s income increases” and necessities as those goods or services that make up a smaller proportion of spending as a person’s income increases.
