People buying Macs are a threat to Windows. Even the idea that there exists an alternative to Windows is a threat to Windows.

More tech start-ups funded (and controlled) by VCs are shutting down as VCs try to get their money out. Startups started by people who have a business plan to actually make money ,sell real product to real customers, rather than just attract VCs and cash in are doing rather nicely thank you.
It's reporting that there are rumours = telling you something about how the locals feel. That's the reason for newspapers and reporters (and spys) instead of just reading raw data feeds. What people are saying - true or not - is the important news.

The christian science monitor has done this and successfully gone from being a very local to a world wide brand.
Because people will pay for 'NEWS' but not for newspapers. People will pay for upto the minute stock market data rather than the 15min delayed version, they will pay $1000s for market reports, they will pay for WSJ articles on companies they want to buy.
But most newspapers aren't selling news - they are selling entertainment. I don't pay to find out the death toll in some plane crash the day before - I pay for a newspaper to read columnists, editorials, cartoons. That's why sunday papers are the largest and most profitable.
It's like the difference between paying to watch a movie and reading the plot summary fro free on IMDB.
Because if they didn't agree to what ticketmaster wants - ticketmaster will boycott them band/venue. Good luck setting up your own ticker sales site and agreeing deals with every other venue/band.

You can search SO, you can see the dozens of other answers to similar questions and you can see other answers by the person answering you. Realtime works for some set of easy quick answers - if the answerers are in your time zone.

The Apple stores will only fix Apples - that's what you're paying the premium for. You might benefit from all the new apps that will get ported to Mac if it suddenly has 3-4x the market share.
