Inspection codes are supposed to protect those people. As currently implemented, they often don't because they force people into ... alternate living arrangements due to strangled housing supply. It's not even the code per se that's the problem. It's the weaponized bureaucratic incompetence around its enforcement.

I switched from a Surface Book to a Macbook Pro + Ipad Pro combo.

I preferred the Surface Book from a device ergonomics perspective -- but I finally got sick of trying to do dev work on Windows.

So I paid 2x as much for the same functionality instead. And that's why Apple won't make that form factor.

Fortunately at least my area has moved away from twitter and towards SMS based notifications for that purpose.

No it isn't. A simpler explanation is that the people making the decision aren't the ones paying for the failure. I see this all the time at the executive level in finance -- people will knowingly make bad deals if it gets them their bonus.

I don't know how it is where you grew up in India, but where my wife's family lives in the Philippines, poverty is very different than here. They are much poorer than us, but at the same time, much more secure. Losing a job is not good, but they would not lose their home or starve as a result due a combination of not being in debt-slavery and familial/social networks close by.

If we lost one of our two jobs, we'd be utterly fucked. We have no family nearby, and the housing market is so fucked we'd be in dire straits within a month.
