This is an ad for a company that drop ships their product from another company that has made its business on offering production and fulfillment of canned (but customizable) 3D knit styles.

Fossil versus Git 3 years ago

If Fossil is so against deleting commits, what do you do if you've accidentally committed sensitive information that cannot live in any form in the repo?

Same here in the USA, those nurses are called Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists.

I'm an anesthesiologist and I cannot imagine taking a picture of a patient, let alone posting it to social media. Even if anonymized.

There is an element of coercion when you ask the patient who is about to place their life in your hands, for consent to do this sort of thing.

Perhaps roll your own VPN using a home router that can act as a VPN server? That way you can use your home internet connection...assuming its upload speed is fast enough.

A shame BBC can't accommodate its paying customers who happen to be abroad.

The DoorDash iOS app is so horrendously slow and laggy on my iPhone 14 Pro (as it was on my 11 Pro) that I’m using other delivery services whenever I can. That means if the restaurant I want to order from is available on another platform, I’ll use that.

On top of that, they’ve made their client software prettier and slower, but not really more usable IMHO. I migrated to BitWarden and don’t think the user experience is any worse.

This rings true for me. I have a federal grant that prohibits me from using its funds for capital acquisitions: i.e. servers. But I can spend it on AWS at massive cost for minimal added utility for my use case. Even though it would be a far better use of taxpayer funds to buy the servers, I have to rent them instead.

I'm an assistant professor in a medical school in the US and agree in general with the article. It takes an absurd amount of time to write a grant application, time that could be spent doing science - but we faculty don't have any choice if we want to continue our careers.

It's an artifact of a time when RAM was extremely expensive and CPUs were slow. Dumping the in-memory binary representation to a disk was apparently the logical choice at the time.

I did this for a few months when my house construction was delayed. Living out of a suitcase, even in relatively nice Airbnbs, was soul-sucking. No choice of mattress, a limited wardrobe, same-y IKEA decor everywhere. Not having a true "home base" was no fun. Wouldn't recommend it unless you really have the personality for it.

Web development is not my job. I still use Bootstrap to very quickly make a passable UI for internal projects. I'm really glad not to have to spend time learning all that stuff.

Since they aren't taxis, car services can charge enough there is no such thing as a low profit route for them.

In cities, there were were either no taxis around in certain neighborhoods, or they simply would not come at all even if you called and asked the taxi company and the dispatcher told you they had sent a driver. Both of these I experienced personally.
