This is a good example of how extremely hungry entrepreneurs often have the advantage. Established companies and serial entrepreneurs rarely stick with their ideas if there isn't immediate success. Yet most large successes take time to mature and build momentum. Really sad to see kevin and milk give up so fast.

While it is annoying, this will exponentially grow the spotify user base. I am a single island of music consumption right now on spotify. IF I were to link my facebook account(which I never use) to it, my feed would be seen by all of my friends encouraging new signups for spotify.

Music is extremely social. Facebook is social. Annoying, yes. Smart, definitely.

Most startups give away their shirts for FREE. If you want a better business model, work out deals with the startups where you promote their company by dispersing their brand to the masses with a surcharge. $10 a month would be an easy price point and mostly profit after shipping costs.

The Drupal Crisis 15 years ago

I've worked with Drupal since 4.7 on many projects. I was excited for the release of Drupal 7, but was amazed at how bloated it was. I've completely given up on Drupal now. You WILL spend more time working against it's api then you would just building something custom with a traditional framework.

Drupal should really look at codeigniter/expression engine for an example of a core/platform separation that works really well.

How is it a conflict of interest? When a company that was founded on the idea of an algorithm that delivers the best content for a search instead starts displaying their own properties (youtube, maps, reviews etc)... well that's a portal now, not a search engine. Conflict.

I absolutely believe the reports of yelps blackmailing actions. I've personally met 2 business owners that have been contacted by yelp. Both accounts were very similar. They threaten to remove the businesses current exposure level if some arbitrary fee isn't paid monthly and they offer to remove any negative reviews for an additional fee.

I completely agree. For most of the life of google they have claimed that they are NOT a content company. It's a conflict of interest when a search engine has their own content to push.

Glad to see this up here. They have a cool open office space in SF on market. We work on our startup (SEscout.com) from there some times. If you're in the bay area, definitely check it out.

I think that in addition to location, degree of expertise or years of experience are important factors which often correlate with location. For instance, if you live in the midwest and make your living tweaking wordpress themes, you may consider yourself a "programmer". However, that wouldn't fly in a major city. So I would speculate that salaries are higher in SF, for example, but the quality of the "programmer" is significantly higher than in other locations. Just my 2 cents...

Just a tip if anyone can't get an invite code:

Google "uk proxy" or similar and use a web based proxy search like daveproxy to sign up for a UK spotify account. Once your account is created, you can change your country on your profile to the US :) Download the spotify app and you're good to go.
