This article is one of the most naive pieces I've ever read. It parts on the principle that these companies want to do what's moral, but the government is keeping them from doing it. That is absurd.

Google, Apple and friends have been willingly cooperating with the government in exchange for perks, for immunity against FTC probes and so on. They're NOT gonna "fight" because they have nothing to fight against.

The leaked slides say clearly the government can query the servers at will. They get real time login data, logout data and payload data.

I don't know why people keep putting this into question, giving Google the benefit of the doubt, when they were caught pants down, no questions asked.

If the companies mentioned in the slides just complied with the law, why would they be singled out in those slides? Honoring search warrants and FISA requests is an obligation, not an extra.

The reason Google was singled out as a partner since 2009 is because they gave the government full unrestricted access.

I recommend everyone have a look at the leaked documents and the extent to which all those companies participated in it and then judge their public relations reactions afterwards.

After the scandal was revealed, and only after it was revealed in an unprecedented act by Snowden, did Google come out in favor of their customers. This is ridiculous.

Chrome is the most invasive piece of spyware you could ever install.

Unless you turn off some 10 or more options, it literally phones back your entire online activity, in or out of incognito mode, in or out of any google service.

Everyone was ok with google's tracking for ads and commercial purposes, even though it felt kinda weird, we had a feelign it wasn't evil somehow.

Google wasn't passively spied on via a beam splitter or whatever you call it.

They were doing the spying and actively sending the data out.

The participating companies were active participants in the spying scheme using the Patriot Act and FISA requests, not search warrants.

The WWW desperately needs a free and open search engine that everyone can hold accountable. The WWW is much too valuable to hand over to a company with blatant conflicts of interest in their search results.

Ever since I started taking online courses(edX,coursera,udacity) my knowledge improved immensely. I am excited to get home from work and watch the classes and try the homeworks.

I think this may be the most revolutionary technology to come out of the USA since computers themselves: extremely high quality distance learning.

Educating the masses is the most difficult mission in history and these courses do the job. I guarantee you that if you take Coursera, edX and Udacity courses you will see the world differently.
