I wouldn't want to hold any Internet-based stocks for "decades". I believe the life span of any public company to be 25 years or less, with Internet service companies being significantly less.
There will always be nation-states. Always. Put ten strangers on an island and they will organically form a hierarchy and political alliances will happen. There will never be a government-less world as long as we're human.
Yesterday I saw a "startup" on /r/startups that was a twitter account that retweets oil prices. People are calling a twitter account a "startup" now. WTF?
ZNGA hasn't even been public for a year, yet their equity is now at an 80% discount from it's initial price. Not looking good at all.
ANY merchant provider can hold funds up to 180 days for any reason in the US. It's not just paypal that does that.
Because every single person who doesn't support file sharing could only be a payed employee of MPAA/RIAA!!
It's like a reverse lottery. Only a handful will "win" a legal case and will get utterly crushed in the process.
Harvesting IPs from DHT is a very easy thing to do also.
If there were more in-depth documentaries about programmers, you would probably find the same types of personalities reign supreme...emotional, introverted, weird. If you consider yourself "normal" & "emotionally stable", then you probably aren't a very creative programmer.
You are saying you would hire the accuser before her case is even sorted out? Why do you assume her version of events are true, and her employer's version false?
Just because you don't get the promotion you feel entitled to, doesn't mean you should sue your employer for discrimination.
Empirically? Where is the research?
No, it's not ridiculous.
>This site seems to be entirely designed to mislead you into thinking you're just ordering one item, while in fact you are signing up for a membership.
Bingo!
"PC death" is a marketing fad.
Riiiight. So I should have to scour FAQ pages and TOSs in order to disambiguate that this is an opt-out-only membership-type club with recurring charges? Go to their home page and tell me it doesn't look like another zappos. Does zappos continually charge me if I don't come back? No. Then click on "How JustFab works"...does it say ANYTHING about recurring membership fees? No, it makes the site seem to be just some kind customized shopping service.
JustFab isn't going to help disambiguate their business model up front because that would hurt their bottom line.
>No more password column in your database...
Who has liability when a user of mine says their account got hacked? The email provider? My site? Mozilla?
If one of my users has $100 go missing from their account, then they are going to expect me to replace it, not the email provider, not mozilla. I don't like the idea of shifting security to a outside platform, because I still retain all the liability when things go bad, and they always will (key loggers, spyware...)
Sites that deal with financial transactions will be reluctant to adopt this for sure.
So what happens if my email account gets hacked? Won't this compromise all my accounts then?
I don't trust any "organization" to store and manage my passwords. A single subpoena to mozilla for a divorce proceeding or whatever could unleash cascading consequences upon you.
But how much money does a poker player burn through before he/she is "good enough" to play in big tournaments and win decent money? A couple hundred thousand? A couple million?
It's like when someone wants to trade stocks/derivatives. They may lose massive amounts of money before getting their sea-legs and that is a price that is far too high for most people (and their families) to endure without gaining anything tangible.
And I wouldn't think that "Professional Poker Player" is a title that would land a high paying job like a university degree might. If someone is spending all their time learning to be a pro poker player, it might back them into a corner where now that's all they're are capable of doing for the rest of their life whether they win or not.
Variable reward systems, like gambling, are damn hard addictions to break once conditioning has set in.
You are 100% wrong. The ad copy on craigslist IS copyright protected so it doesn't matter where you scraped it from. TOSs do govern the data whether or not you are viewing a cached copy or not. By your logic all TOSs are rendered useless if you browse the net via proxy servers.
You can scrape anything off the internet you like and do as you please...but you can't create a business out of it.
If I place an ad on craigslist, I would like to know if my ad will show up on...SanFranGayApts.net or something like that too. Where did I agree to have MY ad syndicated? Nowhere, that's where.
And why would ad copy not by copyrightable? I don't see a creative commons license at the bottom of craigslist ads.
I'm not sure where all this entitlement comes from that you think you have a right to another company's database simply because it's index is public.
Exactly what I was thinking.
The biggest red flag that I see when it comes to fb stock is that it has single digit institutional ownership. Even yahoo has 75% institutional ownership. Fb has like 7% IO. Big money is staying away from fb and that is a huuuuge red flag.
Institutional ownership is a vote of confidence for the long haul. Mutual funds and pension funds buy long and cannot participate in short selling.
Big money knows something about fb long term prospects that all of us don't. I don't know what that is but their actions speak louder than anybody's opinions can.
No offense, but you hardly sound like an expert to me too. Given your defensive position on fb, I'm going to go ahead and assume you own a few shares of fb (or you are contemplating buying) and it pisses you off to see anyone say anything negative about your psychological position.
Think real hard about why it bothers you when a stranger says negative things about fb. Be careful about closing yourself off to those who take opposing positions. Egos will want to remain consistent with past choices, but the world evolves and changes constantly.
Shut off the ego and shut off the emotions. Listen to others opinions then go and do what you feel is right. Opinions are water under the bridge.
You shouldn't be tiring of any opinions if you are a serious investor. Many analysts have fb pegged at near $15. If they are all wrong, then you don't have to try to convince others that everyone is wrong, just go into the market and buy as much stock as possible and just wait for the efficiency of the market to catch up. FREE MONEY...if you're right :)
