I like science fiction too, but all of these potential scenarios seem so far removed from the low level realities of how these systems work.

Today, yes. Nobody is saying GPT-3 or 4 or even 5 will cause this. None of the chatbots we have today will evolve to be the AGI that everyone is fearing.

But when you go beyond that, it becomes difficult to ignore trend lines.

I find it amusing & ironic that they're pursuing games of efficiently & strategically killing enemies as examples of their successful progress. ;-)

Except that the amusement and irony would cease to exist once you have some idea of what's happening behind the scenes.

The AI doesn't know it's "killing enemies". For it, it's just something that results in the increase of a numerical reward signal.

I wanted to add the observation that all the restricted heroes are ranged. Necrophos, Sniper, Viper, Crystal Maiden, and Lich.

Since playing a lane as a ranged hero is very different from playing the same lane as a melee hero, I wonder whether the AI has learned to play melee heroes yet.

The lure of making money as a child is a temptation far stronger than most can resist. If I had access to the things these guys had, I can totally see myself going down the exact same path.

Now, a little older, the prospect of fines that will take a lifetime to repay and/or prison is way more deterring. As a kid, you just never think about it.

Surely, online resources for these courses must exist? I guess it's just about finding the will and time to put in double the effort because of a lack of instructor/conducive environment.

Amount of non-IITians running/starting industries far exceeds in number. And they don't get the same funding...

Can you give me a source on this? One that compares the economic contribution of students from the next-10 colleges in India and finds it to be more than that of the IITs. Because otherwise, you're comparing different sample sizes and your statement becomes trivially true as a result.

But by and large most IITs are largely places to train people, and send them to foreign countries.

Try looking up statistics of what % of students go abroad immediately after graduating from an IIT. Perhaps that might help you revisit this assertion.

An argument could be made to spend this money to improve public schooling infrastructure in India.

Liu Wei, a Chinese artist goes around the streets of Beijing on June 4th asking people ‘What Day is it today?’ hoping for an answer on the lines of ‘Today’s the 16th anniversary of the Tiananmen Square Massacre’ but what he gets instead is a lot of ‘I don’t know’'s from the people whose faces clearly say otherwise.

However HN asked me to put it down and cancel it so it's discontinued now.

If another user has posted a comment on an article you are currently viewing, perhaps you can change the extension icon to indicate so. That could be a trigger to open the comment section.

Otherwise, I'll probably keep being disappointed upon opening the section in websites that don't have comments in them.

I appreciate that they're making an effort at looking into it. However, my newsfeed will still remain blocked/removed until I have more control over what I can see. The snooze functionality is a step in the right direction.

Don't people here use the 'block newsfeed' extensions?

I think that's a nice middle ground to be on. I can still participate in groups that I'm a member of, can still chat with friends, while not have the awfulness that is the newsfeed shoved down my mind.

Afterwards, the pros who do beat it only manage to do so ~2-3 times for every 100 games played. I believe they have been playing the same version that was shown at The International and not an iterated version.
