Psilocybin, MDMA and Salvia divinorum have had a profound effect on my life and the person I am today. Of course it’s impossible to say who I would be, had I not tried these. Has it been for the better? Maybe. For the worse? Maybe. I do know that they are experiences I would not want to be without. They taught me a great desl about myself and helped shape my perception of the inner and outer world surrounding me. Am I smarter and more enlightened, probably not. May be I even shaved off an IQ point or two in the proces. But having my reality altered, even totally disintegrated (salvia) certainly paved the way for acceptance of other states of mind that people may exist in. This is very valuable to me, as it helped break down a black and white coccon I see many people live in (some break free by orher means, some never escape it). To me, it was bungee jumping for the mind but from the comfort of my own home. It certainly has helped me take on and be comfortable with opposing viewpoints, being very tolerant in general and able to reach further into the corners of my mind. It’s been decades since those first jumps, but the effects will last me a lifetime.

This! I’m still suprised people behave like owning an iPhone is some kind of government mandate. Unhappy? Choose differently! Don’t like Apple, buy a pear. It’s like listening to offroaders complaining their Mercedes Maybach gets stuck in the mud.

But that’s just a standard requirement to make stuff look that good.

Slap a cheap lens on an Alexa and light like an amateur and you will get a subpar video-result with the only redeeming factor being the sensor.

And sure, the sensor (or medium) does matter, but production design and good lighting can be used to make almost any camera look great. I don’t think thhere’s anything wrong with that.

Steven Soderberg shot a movie some years ago on an earlier iphone. Some of the shots were truly terrific because of attention to the above.

You can copy or emulate a lot of high-end/cinematic/filmic looks quite affordably. For light you need output + size of light source, easily attainable on a budget. Good audio solutions also exist for reasonable $$. What you pay the most for when using expensive equpiment is more features related to interconmectedness and lifting some of the work in post-production, and durability. But it does not nescessarily translate to better images than what can be achieved by even bedroom-indie filmmakers

We have had “hit factories” for quite some time now, suggesting at least there is some kind of musical output that helps the process of wow-ness upon first listen.

Sure, that formula does not always work on the moving targets of changing times and tastes, but i would argue that we actually do have a somewhat defined framework of that absolute sound (which has been around for some decades now). It’s calles pop music, now a genre unto itself. Yeah, you may not WOW every living human on earth every time with great accuracy, but we have McDonalized music enough to small-wow millions at a time on a first listen basis, just by virtue of being made using quite narrow musical frameworks using rythm, scales, chord progressions, arrangement etc

This level of wonkiness is absolutely perfect for music video producers, and I am betting it will not take long before we see videos in this “style”. Some time ago there was a short trend of data moshing videos. They were certainly trippy and stood out, albeit short lived. Digital artefacts as a way of creative expression can work great, and will too in this case.

Think and reflect. Maybe try a hallucinagen at some point (that won’t make you smarter and carries its own risk, but best case scenario it will open the doors to new mental pathways for you to think and reflect internally and externally)

Learn. As much as you can. Apply that knowledge to as many things as you can. If your toolbox only has a screwdriver and nails, how do yo solve for that? Get a screwdriver, modify the hammer or create a solution to put between the screwdriver and nails? This also leads back to the think and reflect part (and is not exclusively entrepreneurial in spirit, it applies to most aspects of work and life)

Be nice and humble. You won’t get far on raw talent alone. You need people to support and challenge you.

Focus, dedication, determination. The movie Whiplash in many ways explores what it means and takes to become “the best”. Watch it.

Don’t fall in the trap of thinking creativity nescessarily applies accross borders.

Being creative with coding is not the same as being creative with painting or inventing new products.

Of course smart and well trained techs can be creative, it just may not apply as well to creating new products line other types of creative minds.

Fellow dane here. I guess i shouldn’t be surprised, it’s just not something I’ve encountered personally yet (that I know of). Do you know if a bank is obliged to give you your credit score if you ask for it?

That’s probably both a cultural (especially if you are from the US - which I am not) and personal “issue”. I actually do feel like that sometimes though. Not in the sense that I need to leave a big inheritance. Just make enought o help my kids out when they need it, as my parents helped me.

But in the end, the only thing you need to leave behind, is love. That’s the pressure I think one should feel. No child needed money more than a loving parent who was attentive and a caring presence. Sure, if you can be that and leave some $$ after you pass, good on you. But money comes at a price, and only lottery winners get that ride for free.

Concieved first kid at 43. Kid is now 14 months and I am 44. Sometimes I do feel I should’ve shaved off a year or two, just because of general energy level and wanting to have a long life with my child. With that said, I am also glad I waited. But by some magic, even after hours of crying, being fussy and the biggest pain in the ass, a little laugh and a 5 second smile can erase all the days hardships. This is HN, so lots of logic, rationality and reasoning. But with i child, magic does exist. Leave the world alone as you entered it, and everything you accumulated through life will be lost… like tears in rain.

I am a colorist, and you would be wrong. We transcode with a color spacae tranform applied, but even if the footage ends up in log space (not common anymore as most have learned what log is) it doesn’t inform he final grade. And big budget productions certainly have a color managed pipeline.

Resolve is not only for high-end anymore, but for the masses. Plenty of pros, semi-pros and enthusiasts are running imacs and macbooks and Resolve. As a full-time editor and colorist Macs are my preffered choice. I’ll gladly take a small render-performance hit as it’s oversll a betyer experience working on a Mac.

Some shows do actually have a bit of agility as you put it. In its simplest form, you have cahracters written in and out of shows based on popularity. There might also be story paths explored based on fan reponse. This is not the norm of course. But neither is doing a whole season blind-folded like netflix. Things do get tweaked a bit. But there’s a balance to this. You can’t really do great storytelling based on viewer-stats. That’s like a ship steered by wild monkeys. Certainly an interesting voyage, but ultimately not a rewarding one. A captain is needed to steer the passangers on a guided path that will culminate in good experience or not for the majority.
