Because love takes time, and money is time in this society. Takes a lot of money to have friends, and most men are actually to poor to afford friends. That's included in the price society pays for loving wealth first. You cannot serve two masters. You can of course fake it, drinking buddies ect... it's like most things in a money first group, the real thing is continually cheapened until everyone looses interest and then we blame them for having too high of standards.

Renting out the market one could say. And therein lies the problem.
Meg Whitman almost bought the Governorship of California because somebody wrote an auction program. First mover.
That's funny, because Canonical's business model is based on anti-social behavior.
The police, and common culture, protect capital above all else. This is a capitalist society first and foremost. The status quo, the police state, and the corporation are all protected before the innocent individual. It's policy.
Culture can be, but should not be thought of as shared values. The more accurate way to think of it is shared delusions. Their is nothing in "values" that is actually truth, just emotional feelings about it. Shared emotions can be replaced arbitrarily and you have a different culture but reality does not change. That's a delusion, and to use culture correctly in an organization you must recognize that what you are trying to manipulate is just a delusion. Deal with it as delusions and then effective techniques can be learned and implemented.
Simply a kinder, gentler power structure. Not anything the US government hasn't pretended to be working toward for years. All it is is treating citizens as "one of your own" instead of as one of the "them". No great mystery, when power doesn't act quite as much as monstrous assholes people have a better time. People need to stop pretending like a little concern for your fellow man is some difficult, complicated, magical system design based on some secret power. When governments let people help those around them they will. Just get out of the way and give up a little control. All its ever taken for people to build a better system here is just for the Government to get out of the way. That's how the west was won, and built.
That's why we're not arguing. Art is like fun, I know it when I see it.
Semantics.
An person who pays others to create their work can be called a lot of things, but artist is not one of them.
Definitely the cutting edge of Government thinking. Seriously. The message is "you can change nothing".
So nothing's changed, the status quo remains the most important thing. Shocking. As to why, politics and the love of power. Nothing new.
You misunderstand the point.
It is if the market wouldn't exist without people being forced to work at night. The difference seems to be very hard to understand.
But to think people decide to work because either they want things or because the mass media convinces them too is really missing the point of the issue. Maybe that's why you or I or many people do things but the vast majority of work being done is by people being forced to work by a ruling class who demands they work when the only real reason is so they don't have time to improve the real problems they have. Because the ruling class is the problem they have.
That's not his point. He's saying people buy pizza at night because they are unnecessarily working at night. Selling pizza at night shouldn't be necessary because its an artificially created market.
You can't make a contract that violates the law. Come on.
People only have trouble finding others to honestly help them when they can't honestly share the rewards of the work. Slaves will always rebel in any way possible.
That's true, but I draw the line at people creating a higher life form, and that's what it would take to replace programmers.
Finally some damn sense on this topic. The whole "programmers will be automated away" is just a scare tactic to slow down the automation of what can be automated. People scared and afraid and attacking what they perceive as the enemy. Lots of things will be automated, automating will not be one of them.
In a capitalist, caste system society this phenomenon is known as "freedom".
The concept that machines will become the problem and not people is absurd. Completely absurd. People make the machines and people prevent machines from increasing the quality of life for most people. The only change needed in the progression of technological advance is people allowing labor saving devices to actually save everybody from laboring, not just a few. The problem remains the use of slavery by people to increase wealth. This notion of "we must fear computers because they are going to rule us" is frankly moronic, just a distraction from the inability of capitalists to share the rewards of advancement.
There is a fundamental problem with the goals of the governments education system and the goals(or point) of the enterprise. They appose each other because at a fundamental layer the point of gaining power from the efforts of educated people is not in the governments best interest. So it has historicaly been designed for the control of educated people, not in their empowerment to create and change the future and balance of power. This will never change. If enterprise wants a better educated workforce they will have to invest in educating their people, education is the only way to take power from those who cause this problem. It does happens now, but it needs to be expanded on a cultural, practical level. Things will never, and never have gotten better without people disregarding the powers that be and doing it themselves.
Ignorance is bliss. Nothing new. The more extreme edge is the protective power of delusion.
Not buying it. Hackers and painters. Its all the same at some point. Larger items from atomic pieces. Its not that its a different way of thinking, it just requires twice the time.

That's because racism is just the extreme version of difference intolerence. Doesn't matter what the original group has in common, they will gang up on who is different, whatever the difference. The conversation shouldn't be limited to racial matters, the problem is lack of awareness that difference in and of itself causes the unaware to oppress.
The only thing people need to learn, whether with a formal instructor or on their own, is opportunity and reason. That's where society fails, the system is designed to hoard and dole it out from the top. If you want people to learn you have to enable them to stay on the edge of what they know. Programming isn't "easy" to learn on you own, its easy with a computer and an internet connection to keep your self on that edge. Any time you are forced to interact with people there are political barriers in place. That's where the failure of the system is, it prevents people from staying on the edge and getting to the next step by denying them opportunity and reason.
When is the denial going to stop? Capitalism is a system of slavery, and the poor are the slaves not the rich. The ownership shares to stay the owners, and the poor work so the owners stay the owners. Sophisticated slavery, all its ever been.
Your customer may dislike your work, but you have power to change your work, just time and energy. Your boss may dislike you, but you can't have the time and energy to change enough to please him. Difference between engineering something and politicizing something.
