That said, I find the definition of conservatism quoted by the OP insightful: "Conservatism consists of exactly one proposition, to wit: There must be in-groups whom the law protects but does not bind, alongside out-groups whom the law binds but does not protect."

Insightful? I found it a straw man. I've long found left vs right to do more with personality traits. Tribalism is not reserved for either side.

On the right, people are more likely to be conservative as they prefer stability and what is known. Those on the left are not as conservative, as they prefer openness and unpredictability.

Both perspectives have merits.

It's a bit sad, as he appears delusional. A less forgiving viewpoint would be that his background cultivated his sense of being untouchable; that it was just a case of having another go.

I feel AWS ate Rackspace's lunch.

Rackspace were never part of the affordable hosting segment.

I think DigitalOcean ate the shared PHP hosters' lunch.

I've used DigitalOcean, Linode, Vultr.

All have had OK ticket-based support.

There are horror stories out there for each one.

Something I recently missed emacs for, was being able to use it to transparent edit a file over SSH.

I couldn't find an easy way to do that with IntelliJ/phpstorm.

The problem for me was JetBrains' privacy policy[0]. It is loosely-worded enough to forbid them practically nothing, and I find that especially appalling in a so-called "community edition".

What, specifically? Because I can see they are bound by the GDPR and it seems clear to me:

JetBrains does not provide hosting for these products and does not have access to any of your data processed with these tools, unless you actively decide to share this data with JetBrains.

Mac seems to offer a more similar experience to Windows when it comes to corporate remote administration.

PHP's model is different, not a mistake.

It has proved successful so far. The shared-nothing, short-lived process avoids classes of issues such as with slow memory leaks, accidentally blocking event loops, and shared memory threading issues.

Most PHP sites will utilise php-fpm, so it isn't really true that each request will spawn another PHP process.

The language historically hasn't been that great, but its shared-nothing architecture has always been the good part.

It has proved a very successful model, combined with tools that cache PHP bytecode like opcache, and keep a pool of reusable PHP workers like php-fpm.

I may have not used the right video, I can remember watching a documentary in the UK where things weren't separated properly, and they showed pieces of blue wrapping still in the feed.

That history represents 400 years of colonialism. Latin represents classism and racism and denies the history of billions of marginalized peoples.

Do the marginalised peoples include the native Britons who were conquered by the Romans? Or is there a cut off point in your view of history? If the now native Britons, like me, want to retain links to the past, then should that be disallowed?

I like the Latin inscription, as it keeps a connection with the past. Good and bad, it is history I want to be connected to. I find the idea that it needs to be airbrushed bizarre, and the idea that Latin is solely a tool of "oppression" a complete misreading of history.

It's apparently not economical to separate the plastic packaging from expired product. I've seen the same happen to old packets of biscuits being shredded.

I prefer plain SQL using an ORM. Usually using the ORM for insertion, SQL for extraction.

The ones I have used are not mutually exclusive (doctrine, hibernate).

Which is why some dynamically typed languages, like PHP, are moving towards types.

I'm a millennial and have the same concern for generation Z.
