I'd be more interested to see national budgets compared to other national budgets than to family budgets.
Nobody expects a family to pay for military R&D, and many expect their government to. We abide the state precisely because it takes on these responsibilities.
As a metadata fascist, this drives me nuts. However, in earlier versions of iTunes (pre-Lion ?), the shortcut was disabled and did neither. I assume they use non-standard text-input.
So it's not exactly the same issue as the Chrome thing: the user assumes this is a text field that implements the standard shortcut, while in reality the text field doesn't answer and the call is redirected to the main iTunes interface.
I've decided against supporting the movement. I like what they ostensibly stand for. Corporate influence in politics is a tricky thing. There is palpable dissonance between deregulation in good times and bailouts in bad. Protesting that is all well and good.
But, as you say, many supporters are projecting their own views onto the self-proclaimed 99%. I'm worried about supporting a the misguided, vocal, projecting crowd rather than the stated goals. To some degree, political movements always suffers from this. OWS more than others.
On a side note, "the Occupy Movement" has a funny ring to it. Has occupation and liberation become synonymous at last?
The article seems to equivocate the web with the internet. If CNN doesn't realize the difference matters, how useful is the rest of their analysis?
From a bloomberg (business more than tech) point of view, Apple may be just another "global brand."
Apple created the first successful personal computer, and personal computing has since come to define the the we live in. That's slightly harder to replicate.
There's more to Apple than their present bottom line.

That "Normal user" is only normal in the context of Facebook, which itself attracts uniquely many users (reaching people who don't know what a browser is.)
Eventually Google+ will have to compete with Facebook to win the users who don't know that they want the product. But is that a fair benchmark at this stage?

If you’re going for the sympathy vote you should go easy on the entitlement.
Perhaps those who downvoted you disapprove of your writing style and not your (allegedly good) intentions.
The downvoted comment has an unrehearsed, rambling air to it. Frequent comma splices and mis- and overuse of ellipsis (…) don’t help.
The writer is responsible for presenting their ideas effectively. It’s a common courtesy to spare the reader from deciphering a first draft of your ideas.
My resolution for 2010 was 1280x800, so for 2011 I go for the full 1920x1080.
It's great to remember how lucky we are.
However, don’t let this distract from our shortcomings (as a society). And be especially careful when things are moving in the wrong direction.
When things get worse, do not settle for less. That's not gratitude; it's submission.
