It seems unethical if you do it by gene drive. But what if you add some natural randomness to the process and other desirable objectives. Imagine a dating service with a DNA database and you can match up people whose offspring could potentially be very subservient.
What if the full effect is expected after matching 5 generations of people?

There is no known relationship between dark matter and dark energy. They could have been called unknown matter and unknown energy! The absence of a good account for each does not infer a relationship between the two.
Thanks for the excerpt of the study, it is interesting. As persistent stress causes visible signs of aging, for example the seemingly accelerated growth of gray hair and wrinkles of U.S presidents, it is not big a leap to suspect more.
It is possible to imagine a potential casual process that leads to earlier death. What if pessimism creates a constant presence of key stress hormones (Adrenaline, Cortisol and Norepinephrine) and these are already linked to higher likelihoods of heart disease, cancer, ...
To me it does not seem like it is proof by contradiction, or maybe not in the straight forward way that contradictions are used in proofs. It just happens to think about the problem in a complementary (of complement sets ...) way.
The graphs are independent and you can easily read each. What kind of comparisons do you want amongst them? Other than the 2 of them, the y axes of the graphs have different units.
We live in a large N-Dimensional world of knowledge. Everyone at some point is guaranteed to have missed something "they should know", both according to themselves and according to others.
Many times you encounter such knowledge when you are not ready for it, so you forget having encountered it. A good way to convince yourself of this is to start opening up some of your old college text books and look at the chapter introductions and conclusions. You will find some insights that you simply missed regardless of how you performed in the classes.

You are referring to what is known as "The Great Filter". The more troubling question is, What if we are alone because all the more advanced civilizations have been culled?
It is a thought experiment, you have to engage with it charitably.
Just because there is a continuum does not mean specific points along the continuum cannot be identified and tagged as distinct from all other points. There are humans and there are dolphins two different species. It is analogous to the colour spectrum, there is red and there is blue two different colours.
