Recently, the writing-by-hand vs typing debate has been getting some more press, with people saying that pen and paper leads to better retention while note taking. Could reading have similar differences between methods?

It’s nice of you to consider the wellbeing of other users, but I think every adult has the right to make their own decisions about how to spend their money.

If it’s not a price you’re willing to pay, that’s fine. But if someone else gets value out of it and thinks it’s a fair trade, that’s between them and the app creator.

I've been curious about AdonisJS, and I think I'll give it a try thanks to your comment.

Recently, I've been fascinated by the "batteries included" back end frameworks of Rails, Laravel, and Django, but I've written TypeScript for pretty much my entire career, and it's just easier to keep it that way than to switch now.

What are your thoughts so far in your testing? Could you compare it to any of those other frameworks I mentioned?

Full stack developer with 6 years of experience. I love anything to do with application development, but I'm particularly interested in building MVPs and developing internal tools for small businesses.

Slightly off topic, but does “techbro” mean anything other than “male that I don’t like who works with computers”? I feel like it initially had a real meaning, but now it’s kind of a catch all term.

How would that be phrased in Spanish? Are you talking about the future tense in constructions like "Será que...?" or "Estará volviendo" to say "he must be returning"?

Not much to add to an already great comment, but I'll emphatically back the recommendation of "Models".

I read that book in my early 20s so that I could have better relationships with women, but what I got from that book were lessons on living a good and authentic life. Easily the most influential book I've ever read.

What does the $50 get you with Obsidian? I don’t pay, and I’m able to access my notes from my desktop and mobile apps.

Professionally, I've mostly worked as a front end engineer, but during that time I learned and practiced back end concepts. This year, I've switched over completely to full stack, and I've been making a number of projects to experiment and improve.

I love working in environments that value strong communication skills.

Try to look at your profile dispassionately. Would you be interested in meeting this person? Does it look like they’re a generally pleasant person to be around? Do they have hobbies? The questions you ask are really determined by what you’re ultimately looking for or find attractive, so my questions might not match yours.

I think part of the point is that you share your defined scale because that helps the other person understand you and your values.

This is interesting. I'm thinking about how I would implement this, and I think I could do it, but I don't really have it clear in my mind. Be careful with debt. The reason so many people in the western world go to work everyday is because they get the debt, then have to work to pay it off. Go to a country where debt isn't really possible because the economy can't support it (Argentina, Mexico, Mali, Angola, etc.) and you'll see everyone has TONS of time to live the life they want.

Been living in Buenos Aires, Argentina for a year and a half now, and this is exactly what I've seen. This explanation makes sense. I always chalked it up to socializing being a much more important part of the culture than in the US.

Probably depends on the accent you have. I'm from the US, and the way I say 'banana' doesn't rhyme with mañana, but I can imagine my English friends saying it, which would rhyme.

Before giving up on these apps I actually tried what happens to be the OP’s main recommendation: I wrote in my profile “If you are not interested in a friendly respectful chat starting with a simple ‘Hi’ please swipe no”. Unsurprisingly it didn’t work…

I find that it's better to mention what you do want rather than what you don't want. People seem to respond better to positivity than negativity.

Over the last few weeks I've seen a handful of submissions about "the 15-minute city" on Hacker News, but it's always had the additional mention of conspiracy theorists in the title. Is anyone able to explain why that is?

I'm actually doing some research on a similar topic. I'm trying to find what would be the most productive tools for me to create quickly create an MVP or proof of concept.

I narrowed my choices down to Rails and Django, most likely only using the API creation portions of each since I prefer using a JavaScript framework to handle the front-end. I spent some time writing down a list of areas that I could compare the two frameworks, and I'm going to see which one I like the most. Though I have a feeling I'm going to end up with Django. Their documentation and tutorials are incredible.

I've had similar thoughts, but this is the first time that I've ever heard anyone else talk about it. I wonder if there's an exact count of the number of different disparaging "bro" nomenclatures that we've had over the years.

Learn any foreign language! It can open up so many doors to you and offer you a life you didn't think was possible.

During the pandemic I started learning Spanish. After a year and a half of self-study, I went to Mexico City for a couple of months in order to practice. I had such an amazing time that I decided I wanted to spend more time in Latin America, and so I traveled to a few more cities over the course of half a year.

I've met such incredible people, have had amazing experiences, and, most importantly, my mind has been opened to many different ways of being and living. Being aware of those different ways allows you to be more conscious and intentional about how you choose to be and live, which, in my view, equates to more freedom, happiness, and fulfillment.
