If you gave me a coding assignment that would take a day to complete I just wouldn't do it and move on to the next company. I want to work for a company that respects my time and knows that my code is worth money. A couple hours is all I would ever do.
The truth is these companies are selling a commodity now and all anyone is going to care about is which one can give me a ride the fastest and cheapest. I have zero loyalty to Uber or Lyft. If there was another player in the market that gave me cheaper rides quicker I'd never use Uber or Lyft again.
I wish there was a base16 (https://github.com/chriskempson/base16) theme that fully skinned sublime like this does.
What about if there was a hybrid solution where we all collectively issue certificates in some sort of p2p model. I know there are huge technical hurdles to that and you have to be careful of nefarious parties trying to inject bad certs but at least we would get rid of the monopoly.
I don't think it's just a woman's issue. I've struggled with this myself until recently when I got 3 out of the 4 jobs I applied to a couple weeks after getting laid off.
I think the simple way would be to just ask for a raise to market levels or in lieu of more pay you would take additional privileges such as being able to set your own hours.
Which is why http://www.battlegroundtexas.com/ is so important. Texas needs some competition for it's top offices. Having a whole state run by one party is a terrible idea.
I still think this whole thing is to shame other internet providers who says this kind of service is impossible and there is no demand for it.
There is no way Google will be able to roll this out across the country. But if they roll it out to 10 or 20 cities then they might be able to force other internet providers into doing something.
Is that using microwaves? I've heard of buildings getting pretty great speed using that technology.
I would say with out a doubt it'll go east of I-35. East Austin is an up and coming neighborhood. The Hipster demand there will be fierce plus it has a ton of lower income households still which will look good for the free internet (with installation fee) version of google fiber.
Additionally during SXSW a lot of the tech people stay over there. I think one of the reasons Austin was picked was to show off the speed during events like SXSW and Austin City Limits.
The only question is how far east it'll go.
I think this hack was related to the recent Rails vulnerability. Heroku is blaming this on a "YAML parsing vulnerability" which I think was the problem same issue with rails. I'm not sure if they are using rails or not but its surprising that if it's the same issue they didn't do anything about it before this happened.
