The article is kinda weird. Author is most probably suffering from mouse but blames keyboard. As an argument article against modern keyboards describes physical parameters (like distance between rows of keys) of typewriters. And the schematics of hand positioning while using keyboard - they're just unrealistic. Mostly because it's really hard to even place your hands that way without training.
Why there are papers on the floor near each table on the photo in the article?
I'd like to be devil's advocate here - in case of Orwell books, given that publisher had no rights for them, the situation is similar to the selling of stolen goods.
I'd say it's just another iteration of "headphones will kill your ears". The same stuff was around when walkmans became a thing.
Well, you see, this is about products from one brand being able to work as one ecosystem - what we had previously and what we've lost. Before I had to upgrade my work laptop, when I've got to the office I could just plug my headphones from phone to laptop and that's it - now I have to keep additional ones. Phone battery run low - I could've just plugged it into a laptop with one cable - now I have to use adapter/charger. Before all that, if you had to replace your phone/tablet/laptop - you just did that and everything was working as before. Now you have to buy adapters to connect one apple device to another. And don't get me started on travelling.

I assume the original poster didn't mean "subsidies" as financial assistance I, obviously, have no idea what original poster meant but forcing streaming services to buy local titles is, basically, financial assistance.

Ok, let's say that any title made in EU will suffice for every EU member. Still, for every 100 non-EU (basically, US) titles Netflix would need to get 50 EU titles. And I don't think that amount of movies/series/etc produced in US is only twice as big as in EU.
Well, I've actually faced an opposite situation. I have two Gmail accounts, main one gathers mail from the secondary, and I'm pretty sure that main address is set up as "recovery e-mail" in the secondary account. I've registered them more than 10 years ago, and since I have no need to login into secondary account - I forgot my password. But recently I've received e-mail from Gmail saying "we've prevented login into your account from unusual place" which usually means - somebody has your password.
And now I have no way to change a password for my secondary account meaning bad guys still have a valid password. And since some services don't allow you to change e-mail you've used during registration (usually when your e-mail is your login) - I'm basically hostage to Google's login security system and have to rely on it preventing bad guys from logging in into my account while I can not do so myself.
Well, they definitely do fail at the very core. For the non-enterprise Gmail accounts, there is basically no way for account owners to reattain control over an account if it was hijacked. Google product forums full of people blocked from the recovery of their account by sudo-AI recovery form and all the support they get is repeated "use recovery form" from some kind of "google community volunteers" (or something like that).
E-mail account is basically a concentration of personal data and doing so little to protect that negates everything else.

Depends on the country, I guess. Come visit Ukraine - there is almost nothing hidden regarding those agendas here. One question, tho - if they are so incompetent and mismanaged, how come they're your government?

And no - that's not just thinking. Some of those government guys became so insolent that their shady schemes are basically open to public.

That pretty easy. Let's say you're a government official who's in charge of a local subway. One of the stations is in need of renovation. You're opening a tender for that and got 3 participants - 2 of them are some independent companies with bids around market price of the work required. Lets say 105 and 107 thousands euro. And the third company belongs to your brother in law and he wants 500 thousand euros for his services. In perfect world such bid won't stand a chance. But, since you're the one responsible for the tender, you can change requirements for the set of documents required for participation like one day before start, making it impossible for other participants to provide documents in time and thus making them unable to participate. So your brother in law wins the tender, sub-contract work to some third party for the market price and you split the rest of the money. And even if you're will be charged with "improper use of municipal funds" you'll be fined with something around 500 euro and will keep your job.
That is what I've meant by saying "basically own" - you can do whatever you want with company and you can't be held responsible for any of your actions.
And that's not just some imaginary scheme - that shit happens on daily basis in most of Eastern Europe countries. I'm from Ukraine and we're trying to fight that shit for several years now.
Actually that is a critique of a problem. Because one of the biggest problem of Eastern Europe is corruption which leads to many different problems, that eventually result in such stories.
TBH in Eastern Europe something being owned by government usually means that it's being ran (basically owned) by mafia.
If I understood article correctly - problem was that there were 2 women renting his place. Afaik - prostitution is legal there, but brothels are not, and place with more than one "escort" persons is considered brothel from legal point of view, so owner of the property was afraid that he'll be considered part of that.
