Hearing protection is worthwhile. I don't know if we understand tinnitus well enough to say whether most of it is preventable.

tinnitus can be caused for other reasons than loud music, some that are not that well understood. Any sensorineural hearing loss can be accompanied by tinnitus. Autoimmune inner disease (AIED) and meniere's disease can bring about tinnitus. Tinnitus sucks. I think the best guess is nerve cells in the inner ear firing improperly and generating a random noisy signal that gets interpreted wrong by the brain.

The path to reducing emissions is much clearer than the path to efficiently scrub CO2 from the atmosphere. Also, scrubbing CO2 from the atmosphere gets harder and harder as CO2 emissions grow. There is some research to sequester CO2, but I don't think we have an ideas that are better than planting trees.

Antivaxxers are calm because they believe they are making the healthiest choice for their kids. Vaxxers are upset because they feel antivaxxers are just relying on the success of vaccinations to diminish disease prevalence and don't really have to worry about their kids running into the disease.

If I knew everyone else in the world was vaccinated, I might choose not to vaccinate my kid. It's a mostly unnecessary risk for my kid since they would be unlikely to encounter it in a completely vaccinated world. But that sort of thinking is horrible for public health.

Bioweapons are hard to deploy in a targeted fashion. Also, development of an antibiotic resistant bacteria that would be truly dangerous to a population requires great care during development not to kill those doing the development themselves. Also, I think we tend to overestimate the resources available to terrorists.

I still remember entering Horde territory on a PvP server for the first time trying to complete the baby Alliance warlock quests. It was a huge thrill, and I felt completely immersed. I had many other fun times in the game and seeing the other beautifully crafted zones, however, the time commitment I wanted to sink into the game to fully enjoy it couldn't be sustained. I had to quit for personal well being reasons.

I've heard that the goal for many football players is not long term health but to get out there and play while the opportunity is there. Reducing inflammation works so that you feel like you can go out and play again without adequate recovery. When the average football player has only a few months for a few years to make their mark, playing through injury or pain is the goal rather than the proper recovery.

I think the argument is that if bad guys didn't have guns, then there would be no reason for good guys to have guns except to fend off wildlife.

However, even if the bad guys didn't have encryption, we would still want good guys to have encryption to prevent the bad guys from intercepting private and sensitive communications.

Mathematics education should embrace discovery as well as memorizing definitions. The commutative property for multiplication does not necessarily need to be taught before a student discovers it. They may not be able to rigorously prove it. Early on mathematics education should be about to discover and curiosity and lighter on rigor.

You can set up a check so that it doesn't refine catnip too quickly.

setInterval(function() { if ($('tr.resourceRow > td:contains(catnip:)').next().text().indexOf('K') >= 0) { $('span:contains(Refine catnip)').click(); }}, 5);

The brain may also choose to re-encode a memory as part of a recognized pattern, in a sense, finding a way of compressing memories as recognizing them as part of a kind.

If you view your website in chrome, you can click on the lock icon in the address bar. Go to the connection tab -> Click certificate information -> Details Tab. You should see one of the entries should be signature algorithm. SHA-1 is a problem. SHA-224 or higher means the cert is on SHA-2 which is okay.

Admittedly not a biochemist, but I believe sodium and chlorine lose most of their activity when they give up or accept that electron, respectively, to fill their octet. From a biochemistry perspective, they are mostly used as convenient ions to generate voltage differences or activate structural changes in enzymes. The chemical difference between sodium ions and potassium ions are relevant at times, free sodium ions or chloride ions are not nearly as reactive as their neutral complements. It's also very unlikely that sodium ions or chloride ions would spontaneously transform into their neutral complements.

If they can get direct access to the DDG servers, then it doesn't matter if they can siphon off traffic at the ISP level. They can just access the data.

You might be right that is the nature of the game. I played DotA for the thrill of having a powerful character exerting his dominance over other players. It just doesn't happen if your team isn't performing. Plus, DotA has incredible death penalties.

The fact that you are launched into a game where your fun depends on the performance of a bunch of strangers in a fast -paced, hostile environment that penalizes mistakes heavily with only short bursts of text to communicate is a recipe for vile players.

The weird thing is that the stakes are largely only whether the game will meet the player's expectations.

Also, humans are generous when judging their own abilities and are miserly when judging a stranger's abilities.

Will this be any different from Ensure or other meal replacement shakes but marketed differently? Is what he's doing any different from what's been done before?

He could be one of the rare ones that doesn't enjoy food, so he doesn't understand why eating food is often a social experience.

Even if it does turn out to be the perfect drink, though I would think you could find something similar as a meal substitute shake, MRE, or for people who can't chew. There's probably already a market for something like this that is being targeted.

Google Fiber is still being rolled out. Also, the "free" tier will intentionally deliver average broadband speeds with a one time fee of $300 or $25/mo for 12 months. So, Netflix would have to selectively choose only those Google Fiber customers that choose the higher tiers.
