Anyway, here's a story: My college roommate was a force of nature. So one weekend night I'm feeling a big cold coming on and I want to stay in and rest.

He was having none of that, so he goes to the kitchen and gets a spoon and a bottle of vodka and proceeds to snort a spoonful up both nostrils. It was horrifying. Then he gives the spoon to me.

I don't know how exactly, but he convinced me to do the same. It wasn't pleasant, but within a few hours and along with a few gin and tonics, there was no runny nose, no sore throat or headache.

I've done this several times over the years and when it works, it works well. Am I recommending this? Hell no, don't do it!

And I'm still agreeing with you that Gates does indeed have a great deal of influence and should be very mindful of the human damage this cratering of the economy is going to have. Perhaps he should not comment publicly? But that's his right to do so.

I do believe you're missing quite a lot. As western societies become increasingly feminized, many in these societies expect to be cared for and nurtured in much the same way they were by their mothers. Their governments then take on the role as their Other Mother.

The problem with our Other Mother providing health care is that options and competencies will become severely limited due to centralized decision making and lack of incentives for qualified individuals to become physicians, or even to continue practicing medicine.

I believe the individual should share in some of the financial and logistical burdens of their own healthcare. Do I think our Other Mother has a role in providing healthcare? Certainly, but way in the back of the process in support of extreme and extremely chronic cases like transplants, severe injury recovery, advanced diabetes and some others.

First Question: Yes. But the mission and responsibility was not eliminated. To claim that is irresponsible at best.

Third Question: The Snopes piece is devious in that it suggests, as a result of the restructuring, the Trump administration single-handedly gave up the mission and responsibity of responding to infectious disease crises, pandemics and bio-weapon attacks. The reality is that there are layers upon layers of civilian and military procedure and doctrine supporting this mission and responibility.
