As someone who runs a small dev agency, I'm very interested in research like this.

Let's say some Doctor decides to vibecode an app on the weekend, with next to 0 exposure to software development until she started hearing about how easy it was to create software with these tools. She makes incredible progress and is delighted in how well it works, but as she considers actually opening it up the world she keeps running into issues. How do I know this is secure? How do I keep this maintained and running?

I want to be in a position where she can find me to get professional help, so it's very helpful to know what stacks these kinds of apps are being built in.

I've done the same, with both design/planning docs as well as code changes, and have the same experience as you. It's better than Opus 4.5 as well. GPT 5.2 is on another level for my use cases (primarily Python / Django).

Anecdotally, Azure OpenAI is a big player in the mid sized enterprise market and up. Lots of corps want to use OpenAI models, and the easiest way to onboard is to just spin up Azure OpenAI. You already have an agreement, your legal department is fine with it, you have a MS rep etc.

I think tons of businesses look to Microsoft first when it comes to AI solutions. I'm not saying they have the best products, but when has that ever stopped them?

The main benefit most people see right away is the Pydantic integration & it requires less boiler plate for basic API's. Ninja is essentially FastAPI + Django.

I prefer Ninja over DRF, but I know plenty of orgs who still love their class based DRF views as once you are over the (significant) mental hurdle of understanding all the abstraction there, it does give you the common CRUD type operations on your models "for free".

Agreed on this point, I don't want to be subsidizing insurance or paying for multi millionaires homes to be rebuilt.

I truly feel bad for the people who lost their homes, it's awful. But it shouldn't be the tax payer who picks up the tab. If insurance is so prohibitively expensive you can no longer afford to build there, then so be it - you can't afford to live there after all.

I thought it was pretty bad. It made Napoleon out to be uncharismatic and a total "simp" as the kids would say towards Josephine. He just comes off as a war monger Dictator who is ruining Europe for his single-minded vision of personal grandeur.

That's not the read I get on the man from my reading, so I found it very disappointing from a historical perspective.

From the "is it fun to watch" point of view... it was middling for me. Some of the battle scenes were cool, and there were some funny lines throughout that made me laugh, but overall as a story I found it pretty uninspired. Like, Gladiator had tons of historical inaccuracies as well, but it stood on its own as a really fun movie to watch and I can't put Napoleon in that category.

It gets worse after that, the first two episodes were definitely the strongest imo.

I've been leveling up since I started as a helpdesk rep at 18, becoming a Windows sysadmin, then a junior dev, and now a senior dev. College was not an option for me for reasons totally outside of my control, as my parents decided to not do their taxes for a number of years and I was unable to get any financial aid (grants or loans) whatsoever.

I scratched and clawed, read tons of books, blogs, spent extra time polishing features beyond what was needed so I could learn new skills... but now I am a father of two young kids, with a wife. How long am I supposed to put in all this extra work? I'm likely slightly above average intelligence, but I'm far from being at the level where I could be an AI researcher... if I am even capable of doing the kind of math required there, it would require many years of learning.

GPT4 isn't going to replace me, but watching this space unfold really has me worrying about the versions that come out over the next 2-5 years.

A human is only so moldable, and while I am more than happy to learn new skills, I have no idea where to even start. What profession is safe? Where will the growth be in a field that will have equivalent or even near equivalent earning potential?

If GPT ends up getting to the point where it can replace me at my job, I really have a hard time thinking of a career path I could get into at this stage in life. It would need to be able to architect systems at a high level, write code to implement various features, communicate with stakeholders, document design decisions... if it can do that, it can do a whole hell of a lot of other jobs too.

Once it gets to that point, I don't think physical jobs will be that far behind on being automated either. We already have robots of all shapes and sizes (including bipedal), the main thing slowing down their deployment is that they aren't adaptable enough. With AGI, that changes. It will take a bit longer due to the capital requirements and factory build outs that would be needed.

I saw this effect directly in Eve Online. In the early days there was a lot of experimenting with how exactly to organize these large groups of players. Some groups tried democracy of some flavor or another, others dictatorship. Dictatorship easily won out in the end.

Most "dictators" in Eve actually end up being pretty good at their job, because it is a cutthroat market, and the most precious currency is players willing to fly for you and they can easily leave to join another group should you piss them off and not take care of them.

I am a pretty big SpaceX fan, but so far, they've been tackling challenges that lend themselves to a rapid iteration if given sufficient capital.

Rapidly iterating on the incredible engineering difficulties inherent in building a reusable rocket does not mean you can do the same thing with an interplanetary mission that involves at least ~5 months of travel one way.

They need a whole other class of scientists and engineers to solve the "keeping a human alive for years in spacecraft/colony" problem. It just seems like a fundamentally different class of problem to me, and that SpaceX's strength of rapid iteration may be hardly applicable to this problem.

I will never again interview for Amazon unless I am about to be evicted and they are the only one left in town. Interviewed for a senior dev role, went through all the rounds, took days off of work to be available, and after the final round they just ghosted me.

I had to follow up to find out they had chosen someone else.

The amount of time I put into those interviews was absurd, reading up on all their principles, coming up with stories from my career where I met their principles etc. To then get ghosted at the end was a real slap in the face.

My guess is that moves will go down even further over the coming years. Anyone who bought or refinanced a home over the past decade would need a hell of a good reason to sell and buy a new home in a new location with interest rates going up like they have.

Happy paying customer here, and agreed. Their cost per search feels very high to me, but I don't know enough about the search space to know what is normal.

We don't ignore it, it's just very expensive to drill with current technology which limits the locations geo thermal can profitably operate in.

+1 on Ninja. Been using it on a number of projects the last 6 months, and its been a joy to use.

He also talks about how in a deglobalizing world the one power source most every nation has access to locally is coal. So you could see a reduction in industrial activity and consumption, but still end up with increasing emissions due to nations switching back to coal just to keep the lights on.

I take it as him denying all of it.

He lies all the time. His style of leadership to the rank and file is to provide a narrative they can buy into, and whether the facts fit that narrative or not doesn't matter. He just needs to keep the narrative roughly coherent for everyone to consume in his group.

To my eyes he's currently playing the, "I'm the victim here, but despite being blameless I will step down for the greater good of the organization" martyrdom and us vs them story. That sets him up nicely for a return to visible power after a few months.

To be clear on the 3 points I listed out, the only thing I can personally attest to is that the pedophile in question is indeed a pedophile, as we kicked him out of my former group many years ago once we found out and that he somehow found a landing spot inside of Goons despite them knowing full well what he was.

Former somewhat notorious Eve player here who has met Mittani in meatspace. My bias is that I really, really dislike Mittani as a human being (and our in game groups were very close allies throughout our relationship).

It's impossible to say for sure if he is actually stepping down or not. He has apparently given the "keys to the kingdom" to other Goons and appointed an interim CEO. Whether that means he is actually permanently out of the leadership loop or not remains to be seen. I don't know how close the new interim CEO is to Mittani, but I saw that the person he transferred the corporation shares to is extremely close to him, and the shares is what truly matters. With the shares you can remove the CEO, just like a board in real life.

You can run a major Eve alliance and coalition without ever logging into the game. So while his character may not be listed as CEO anymore, it means very little in and of itself. At the end of the day with groups of thousands of people, it's almost entirely about the politics and group dynamics. If he still has access to the leadership Jabber/Discord/forums and the leadership still believes in him, he could still be the de facto CEO.

I do want to note - this article did a terrible job explaining why so many people are mad at him. There were chat logs and screenshots from various services that showed he:

- kicked a player out for reporting some serious sustained abuse sustained against her by one player

- elevated a well known pedophile to a position of power

- Multiple women unrelated to the game were complaining about him groping them at events in his hometown

Reading the announcement he posted about stepping down, he cast himself entirely as the victim here and took 0 ownership and never apologized. Unless he has finally gotten bored with the Eve metagame, I highly doubt this is the last of him.

+1 on Tilt. It just works.

For 4 - worth checking out Squad. 50v50 matches with quite a bit of realism baked in. My favorite moments are getting setup in advance where the enemy is likely to advance with a trusty MG, going prone and just waiting for them to run into my sightline.

While having quick reflexes is always a benefit, positioning and teamwork is more important in Squad.

Finding a server with consistently decent squad leaders is definitely important to get the most out of the game. If the squad lead isn't talking for more then a minute or two, leave and join another.

Been a big fan of Tilt since I started using it early this year. Could definitely see Tilt slotting into the new Docker Desktop Dev Environments feature.

I grew up in south west Michigan and absolutely took them for granted. After almost 5 years in Austin we decided to come back to Michigan with the birth of our first child. I missed the lakes terribly, just totally took for granted that not everywhere has fresh water surrounding them on all sides.

In this climate change age, being close to so much fresh water really helps calm my nerves knowing that I am in a spot that will be able to weather the changes better then most and possibly become a refuge for more people.
